Would you be disappointed if this guy was the pick at 16??

Actually False

Butler was lower than guy like Ogbah, Hunter Henry, etc.

We didnt have KK locked up and Gettleman wanted a backup just incase.

That whole entire draft was one big reach.

We went and grabbed a guy incase KK was gone after that season.  And reached for CBs with the loss of Norman.

Im still convinced we had our eyes set on the CB out of Houston that the Bengals drafted in the 1st.  To draft as a Normans replacement.

When they drafted him, Gettleman panicked and grabbed Butler.  And everything began to crumble

Butler was lower that the others based on what.  DG board's?  That is the only one that matters.

If I remember correctly DG has talked about picking him because they had him rated high and that going BPA works out because down the road you might not keep Short and having Butler would help.  Not so much we picked him to replace short but we picked him because we had him rated high and more so after the fact it was a "told you so " moment about going BPA and how it works out later.

Either way I seriously doubt he used a first round pick to pick a player "just in case" an extension doesn't work out with another player down the road.  I firmly believe they had Butler high on their board and to them it wasn't the reach some on here think, but unless we can get DG to admit to it we'll never know.

Yes, I would be disappointed with this selection. He is a solid player but isnt dominant in any area. I could see him even lasting until the late first or second round so this would be a reach. There will be better DE, DT, S and possibly CB and OLB available.

We have to see what happens at the combine of course.. But on game tape alone and production he isn't going in the 2nd round.   Some of you are dreaming on that.. Plus the position he plays is considered high priority for most teams it's highly unlikely that will be the case...

A lot of people around here will end up liking the Montez Sweet type of ends.  They will watch some highlight vids and see the speed and bend and get excited, that is not who Allen is.  Sweat is around 240 and this guy is around 285.

Allen looks to be a strong side DE.  In a lot of ways you are drafting for two different positions.  Depending on how big Allen really is you might even move him inside on some sub packages.

He might be a little more scheme specific than some guys in the draft and that might hurt his draft stock some.  He might not be big enough to be a 3-4 end and I'm sure he isn't quick enough to be a 3-4 lb.  So strong side 4-3 is probably it for him.  Whereas some of the 4-3 quick ends could possible be 3-4 outside LBs and some of the 4-3 DTs could be 3-4 ends.
