Foh they were close to reaching the AFC Championship game in 2014. Smith missed half the season in 2015 after an impressive start. Returned in 2016 and they improved to 9-7 (just missed the playoffs).

Stop quoting me dude. You're a liar.

One Baltimore writer back in 2014 pointed out that Smith became increasingly useless after the Panthers game. And then the following year he couldn't even stay healthy long enough to finish a season.

Pretty clear that dumping him was the right call.

One writer says it so it's got to be true! For all we know, he could be the David Newton of Baltimore. Over a hundred yards in the wild card round. Useless indeed.

Stop quoting me. I'm close to blocking you.

As I recall, it was pretty respected sportswriter (Baltimore Sun, I think). Mind you, he wasn't the only one who noticed the decline.

I can try to find the article if you want to read it. It was pretty interesting.

It was only a decline because his first half was a lot greater than expected. He still produced in the second half. If Funchess had a season like Smith's 2nd half/postseason of the 2014 season, we'd give him a second contract.

Smith's 2015 season was even better. He was on pace to have his 2nd best season. Too bad for the freak injury.

Thats because he was old.

Good thing we cut him before he could drag us down like he did the Ravens.

"Cornerstones" A few good picks on the squad. Hurney is the definition of mediocre. Not to mention Gettleman wanted to release Davis and Olsen, which in retrospect would be the right call. I dont know who's twisting Tepper's arm to keep Hurney but that guy is the root cause of our teams sucking.

On the other hand Gettleman released Ginn & J NO which was pretty stupid. But ill take a guy who makes occasional stupid moves when he can assemble the most talented rosters in the NFL. Hurney just drafts like crap and overpays people, and can't fill out the roster.

Interesting..... I am pretty sure the roster you believe Gettleman built was Hurney's aside from a couple of veterans and zero rooks. I'd much rather have Hurney drafting than Gettleman all day.

Not signing Jno was smart. Our cap situation would be even worse with him and he proved that he isnt worth the money. Id rather have Jackson at CB at the money Jno is currently paid

Yeah, it would have been worse. Though I believe a 1 yr rental would have been the best option.
