Hurney Sounds Like He's Ready For a Change

I actually want Fox back as well, but not Jake. Last night Hurney admitted that he felt like he hadn't done anything right. No way should we have given Jake such a huge contract.

Fox is the bigger problem than Jake.

Jake is playing terrible and we all know it...hell, Jake knows it.

But, he is out there TRYING to make plays. Fox is the one to blame by continuously sending Jake back out there time after time....expecting a miraculous change in outcome.

That is not coaching....that is hoping things just get better.

Isn't insanity trying the same process repeatedly while expecting different results?

I heard that exact quote on the Mac Attack this morning.

They had 2 callers/emailers out of the several hundred they have received today who defended Jake and said he should start next week.

I pointed this out in the other thread about Fox's comments. I don't get it. Let the guy step out of the spotlight with some dignity. I don't want to remember Jake for his performance as it is now, I want to remember him throwing x-clown to win against the Rams, I want to remember him throwing TDs in the Superbowl and talking trash to Rodney "POS" Harrison... That's what I want to remember him for.

I don't want someone to mention Jake 10 years from now and think, "Oh yeah, the guy who threw 13 INTs in 6 games. It's clear that he's lost it, I think he just hasn't been right since the surgery mentally and physically. Just let him slide out of the spotlight and give Moore the chance.

Good point. It's not a certainty though. If it were I'd say cut him now and take the penalty in the uncapped year.

If you cut him now, the money goes into this year's cap.

The mistakes were made in the off-season. By not moving or getting Pep signed, forced them to re-do Jake's deal. There is no way Peppers should be playing this season under the 16million franchise tag. That is pure ignorance, which led to the Delhomme deal to create cap room for others.

The contract extention that Jake got is not a bad deal for the team at all. The numbers that were reported make the situation look bad but in reality this was nothing more than a cap move. And the 20 million gaurenteed is not correct. Hurney did not go into details but said that that number was incorrect.

Jake was set to make 11 to 12 million this season. The three year extention, which also included this year, spread that 11 to 12 million plus a little more I'm sure over the next four years. If Jake is cut at the end of the season the gaurenteed pay out and cap hit will only be a million or so more than what it would have been without the extension.

Hurney should actually be praised for what he did with Jake's contract, given the situation with Gross and Peppers. Jake and his agent did hold a lot of leverage but in the end really came away without much in gaurentes. Where they came out ahead was in the overall contract numbers which would have been great for Jake if he would have preformed well this season.

Well I hope that it is AJ Feeley then because the last thing I want is for Matt Moore to overachieve (ala Jake) and see us give him a freaking contract extension thinking he is the future.

Seriously? If Moore kicks but I would all but be happy. Dont think they would give him a 5 year contract but extend him 3 years I would have no problem with.

Hurney sounds depressed because he sees that little red "career dissapation" light flashing in the corner of his eye. If I was Hurney I would be depressed to, I'm managing a cap-strapped team and I just gave Delhomme 20 million for 5 years and have no other legitimate option at QB... DOH!

Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather see Feely or Moore go out there and struggle at this point then Delhomme. Delhomme has no upside, Feely and Moore might turn the ball over just as much as Jake - but I suspect either one of them would have more upside in terms of being able to complete passes.

Just let Moore finish out the year. It'll take him a game or two to get into a groove but if he does decently, he can compete with whomever we bring in next training camp...or (gasp) Jake for the starting job. If Moore doesn't find his groove and is crap...oh well. Season is over anyway.

I will say this though about Moore. If he comes in and hits target after target (like we see almost every other QB in this league do sans 2-3) that will speak volumes about what everyone is saying about Jake. BUT if the offense struggles (not him) and doesn't move downfield...it'll speak volumes about Davidson and Fox. That's what I worry about. I worry Matt will have to run the same game Jake does. But if he sucks...we won't know anything at all.

if they treat moore like a rookie QB then he should be fine. i don't care if they have to strip down the playbook, just get him out there and run the ball like crazy and have him throw to the open man on passing plays. let him get rid of the ball quickly and get the ball moving forward.

What is there to strip out?

Moore should have the offense down pretty well. Regardless, Davidson needs to keep a heavy dose of those quick throws to the RBs and workout of the shutgun more based on what the Cardinals were doing to the Giants last night.

    • He's not wrong though. You talk like a politician on here. Leaving yourself just enough wiggle room to say you never fully counted Bryce out if you need to....But we can all see it. Just say you think he is a bust outright and you will have to type a lot less. Obfuscating your opinion behind QB3 competitions etc....
    • Most EVs are in the 90+ e-MPG meaning some measurement house somewhere compares the EV to a similar ICE model and works out how much is costs to charge (on average) versus fill up as a point of comparison. Talking long term, in the hundreds of thousands of miles?  No clue.  Some early signs are that EV batteries maintain 80% charge over 400k miles.  So there's that.   The challenge and charm of an ICE vehicle is being able to park it under a tree, get your jack stands out and tinker with your engine.  There's just not that same level of complexity in an EV.  I saw someone estimate there are 200 or so moving parts in an EV, and 2000 in an ICE vehicle.  I'm not a part counter so I can't really speak to that. I think that the EV is more the future than any type of combustion engine.  Those will still be around in specific purposes, but for most people - an EV will be the superior option in terms of efficiency.  I say that as someone who loves stupid horsepower numbers out of turbo 4 bangers and inline 6s...  I am one of those tinkers when I can be. A bigger issue for EVs is going to be the ownership versus lease.  Right now, there are INSANE leases on EVs, which is great, but what do you have at the end of that lease?  Nada, maybe some equity if you're lucky.  Where as I'm almost done paying for my car, and plan to keep it until the wheels fall off (or my son wrecks it when he starts to drive).  Will EV makers do the smartphone thing and build in planned obsolesce?  Stop updating software?  I love the tech in EVs, and I think getting more cars and trucks off the road is a good thing.  But I am still just a little concerned.  Capitalism has gotten far too extractive.
