Juicy Jay, for my money... But, Reptar is damn close.

I am a pretty big fan of Citraquench'l and Uberquench'l. Those are somewhat available. Best beer I have ever had from CLT?? The Cataclysm III from Heist. That may be the best NC stout I have ever had. It's either that Southward(Casita) or Querido Y Perdido B1(Casita & Cycle). All stellar.

CLT is the king of haze and, IMO, easily the best brewing area in NC. Asheville has really fallen behind as the craft beer market has exploded. For NC, 1. CLT, 2. Asheville/Brevard, 3. Wilmington 4. Triangle 5. Triad.

I'll have to check some if those out. Agreed on the clt beer scene. One of the best in the country, honestly.

Honestly, i was a little disappointed there are so many national breweries coming to our beer festival.

CLT is a solid beer scene but it is still not a national beer destination. I think in the near future it may be. We just don't have the hype that some of the other major beer destinations have yet.

I disagree on the national breweries. That is one nice feature is the chance to get some beer that doesn't get distributed to NC. I am GUESSING this is probably going to feature more limited beer than some of the shelf available beers that these breweries produce. I could easily be wrong about that, however.

@kungfoodude Thanks for the info.. I was genuinely interested. I am not a beer snob, and i dont mind hipsters as long as they dont mind me. I wont be able to go, but it sounds really cool. I hope you didn't think I was being facetious asking you.

Yeah, there are a lot of pretty cool beer festivals out there. This definitely looked like a great one but there is also Juicy Brews in Charlotte on 03/23, Brewgaloo in Raleigh from 04/26-04/27, Voracious & Rare Beer Festival in Wilmington on 10/25, State of Origin in Morganton on 06/08 and the NC Rare & Vintage Beer Festival in Jan 2020. Those are some of the big time beer events but there are dozens and dozens of them of varying sizes all over the state. Hit one up at some point. Big and small, it is a pretty cool way to get to try a lot of beer in a fun format.

No worries, I didn't think you were being facetious.

One reason for that is due to NC law that states that if you make over 100,000 barrels (or something like that), you need to have a 3rd party distributor. A lot of the local breweries aren't down with that and are fighting to change it.

We do have some poo laws but they really aren't hampering the hype. That is largely tied to the quality or perceived quality of the beer being made. That said I am very glad you have some(I know Red Oak is militant about changing laws) that are fighting so hard to change some of the archaic and nonsensical laws we have.

But we just don't have any heavy hitters on the national scene like our neighbors South Carolina(Westbrook), Virginia(Veil, Answer, Aslin). Wicked Weed was one before they sold out to the Evil Empire. Barrel Culture had some momentum moving in that direction before their original brewer went off the deep end and left. Heist was building that kind of reputation but their brewer left. It sort of seems like every time a NC brewery starts to get that national level recognition to make them a "travel destination" then they somehow manage to fug it up.

It's frustrating because we do have a very good scene in NC and places like the Triangle are one of the most desirable beer markets in the country. NC as a whole is a very desirable market for beer.
