Yes this!!

Let's say Hurney sucks.. As he did near the end of his 1st term here.. Other than "real" Panthers fans suffering because we want our team to win no matter who the GM is.  What is the benefit for Scot on this??

Is it going to make Gettelmen the GM of the Panthers again??

Will that change the fact that both Gettelmen nor Hurney have back to back winning seasons as GM of teams so both should be seen as avg or below avg??

Will we have a petition here to get Gettelmen a statue in front of the stadium??

NOOOOOOOO!

So what is the point in being this much of a prick??

True...he was so offended at my suggestion that he’s more a Gettleman fan than a Panthers fan, and now he wants to make a challenge where his “winning” is contingent upon the Panthers losing. This way, no matter how minor, he has some incentive to see the Panthers fail so that he can feel validated. Very sad indeed...but not surprising. What’s surprising and even more sad is that he actually has people supporting this quest of his.

I have no idea. The poor guy isnt exactly a logical thinker if you've read his posts over the years. This is a new low.

I said the other day he would be upset that the team appears to have made some sound decisions the last month.

I said he would critique every move with a fine tooth comb to find a problem with them no matter who we got...

I'm trying to give this dude the benefit of doubt.. But  I'm not sure if he isn't really hoping this team does bad for some underline Gettelmen revenge narrative..

Hence, why I say commit now, no excuses.

But to pretend there aren't extenuating circumstances is naive.  Example last season.  Cam being injured is 100% of the reason the record is as bad as what it was.

Lets say, hypothetically, Cam gets injured on week 2 and gets shut down for the entire season.  There is no back up QB on the face of the planet that will give the Panthers a good season.  And it try to plan for such a scenario and overpay heavily on a back up, would actually be an absolutely horrible GM move, considering our other issues.  Are we supposed to turn around and then blame Hurney?

This dude needs a break from the internet. I actually feel sorry for him reading this.

But hey, at least I haven't been dumb enough to meet somebody for a fight and get my ass kicked over a message board yet.

I mean that would take an absolute moron, right? :Eyes_Emoji_42x42:

I get what you're saying, but throw in enough "extenuating circumstances" and nobody's ever to blame for anything.

If you want to build a winning football team, the most important thing is being able to determine who's good at something and who isn't. It's harsh sometimes, but that's the game.

Got it.  You want me to pledge that if Cam Newton gets injured again, and is the sole reason we have a losing record..its Hurney's fault?

Sorry.  I am not that stupid, ignorant, or naive.

Nah :)

I want to see the team winning long-term, and because I don't have faith in Marty Hurney I think it's best to move on from him. But since he's the GM for this year at least, I hope he succeeds. But I won't be terribly surprised if he doesn't.

It's one of those "I'd be happy to be wrong" situations, so no it doesn't get me upset.

My stepson spending 6 hours a day playing World of Warcraft gets me upset.

My stepdaughter always being able to find the guy I like the least out of her dating pool gets me upset.

My wife making a major purchase without checking the budget first gets me upset.

Those are real life things.

This is football talk.

Well, you're not at all getting what I've actually said, so...

You said no excuses.  Sometimes there are excuses, within reason.

I don't see the point in a pledge with such a black and white way of looking at things.

Again, it doesn't involve predicting the season.

I'll break it down this way: Marty's responsibility is building the roster. That's a big part of what makes our team good or bad. It's not everything, but it's a lot.

What I've said here is that, for better or worse, this roster belongs to Marty alone. If it includes good players from the prior GM, that doesn't matter. The roster as a whole is the only thing that counts, and it's the starting point for where we go this season.

Will it be good enough to win, or not?

No idea.

But whatever it is, it belongs to Marty. The coaching doesn't. The circumstances don't. The breaks and the adversity don't. But the roster? In as much as it's either a strength or a weakness, that's on the GM. Yeah.

Is this an unfair statement?
