Again, it doesn't involve predicting the season.

I'll break it down this way: Marty's responsibility is building the roster. That's a big part of what makes our team good or bad. It's not everything, but it's a lot.

What I've said here is that, for better or worse, this roster belongs to Marty alone. If it includes good players from the prior GM, that doesn't matter. The roster as a whole is the only thing that counts, and it's the starting point for where we go this season.

Will it be good enough to win, or not?

No idea.

But whatever it is, it belongs to Marty. The coaching doesn't. The circumstances don't. The breaks and the adversity don't. But the roster? In as much as it's either a strength or a weakness, that's on the GM. Yeah.

Is this an unfair statement?

You have said sooo much more than that.

Yes, that is a fair statement, but it is no where close to the over all "pledge".."challenge"..whatever thing you are trying to stir up.

My point is there are things that could happen during the season, outside of a GM's control, that can drastically effect what happens and those should not be written off/ignored.  As you are stating they should be.

The roster belongs to the GM.  But you want us to judge the GM while ignoring the things you state don't belong to him.  The coaching, the circumstances, the breaks, etc.

Actually I haven't, but I've had some things read into my statements that weren't there.

The heart of it is just that. Marty is the guy in charge of offseason roster building. If it's bad, no excuses. If it's good, no "yes, but" discrediting.

I judge the GM by the roster he builds, the coaches by how they coach it. I've said many times that you have to judge the combination overall. Right now, I'm not a big fan of either side of that combo.

Succeed or Fail this is Hurney's team.  He has had ample opportunity to remove players that don't fit our needs whether he drafted them or Gettleman.

If we go to the Super Bowl Hurney deserves the credit or if we go 0-16 he gets the blame.

IMO if Hurney got us to the Super Bowl it was inspite of DG.  Reflecting on DG job here, wasn't all that spectacular and many of his players are not on our team or not in the NFL.  We have a couple standouts but overall I think if we had kept DG around much longer our team would be filled with mediocre talent.

Gettleman only cares about hog mollies.  So that means you'd have all the money spent on molars, and your front teeth would rot out.

    • I tend to look at all of these guys and wonder how committed they are to doing special teams? It's a big deal when you're fighting for roster spots. And we need massive refreshes to all phases of the special teams game. And the idea that four or five of these players could see rotational use outside of special teams would be a win. This team has accumulated quite a bit of dead wood over the last five years and its time to take an axe to some of it. These new fellows have a shot to benefit from that if they can really push. That being said, wow that receivers room is crowded right now. I'm not sure if I was a vet player with more than 2 years experience other than Adam Thielen if I'd be too sure of my future here. Tet is guaranteed a spot, Coker earned his for sure and they aren't done with XL developing yet. That's only two to three spots left for the entire room. It's going to be very competitive and better for Bryce's future, too. Safety and linebacker are the opportunity spots here this season. There's room for the right guy and we may see a starter eventually from one of these UDFAs, either by merit or injury.
    • Aho and Jarvis just gripping it too tight right now. Relax, play their 200 ft game and the shots will start to find the net. Freddie has been excellent and welcome back Mista Svechnikov. Burns.....well, thank goodness for Slavin.
    • Supposedly he plans on staying in college for all 4 years.
