Dan Morgan on Matt Moore

Dan Morgan probably can't remember what he had for breakfast, who cares what he thinks. If Matt Moore would have started earlier in 2007 we might have had a shot to get into the playoffs. and why didn't he start? fox believed in his vets- 44 year old Vinny Testurdverde and David Carr. just like Fox didn't believe in DeAngelo Williams so he went with Foster and drafted Johnathan Stewart to replace him.

I care what Morgan thinks, even if I disagree with him, and some of the potshots people are taking at him are out of line.

Disagree if you want, but the low blows are uncalled for.

See how it works? :(

Sucks but it remains just as true as your original statement.

Actually, it applies to Feeley because as I recall that situation happened. He looked good enough in Philly to net a high draft pick trade to go to Miami. Then he sucked in their offense and wound up canned.

I recall Dan saying that Moore didn't know the playbook in 07 when he first joined the team. So I'm going to assume that info is 2 years old unless he says otherwise. 2-3 years and you don't know the playbook by now? That's got to be bogus but I guess its a possibility.

That may be an accurate read.

I agree the shots are Morgan are lame and uncalled for.....Morgan at least probably has pretty think skin being a football player. Worse comments have been made about several guys on the active roster.....you play in the NFL....it comes w/ the territory.

that said, you could probably ask every player in the lockerroom who should start and each QB would get votes. They are all opinions...only way to who is right is to put them in actual games.

I don't care if Moore lines up in the huddle, and says "Ok everyone go out for a pass."

That is still better than Jake.

He don't need to know a playbook to outplay Jake(who knows the playbook?).

Just play backyard style football, at least the defense won't have a clue what we are doing.

This article from the Observer features quotes from players on the situation: Panthers speak out

These two are from Jordan Gross.

"I was here when he started a few games (in 2007). He knows the system. He works hard. I'm sure he'd be eager to get the opportunity. If they put him in there, I'd be fine with it." LT Jordan Gross on backup QB Matt Moore

"He's obviously really new to us. He hasn't had any live reps with this team. But he's a proven guy with experience. I'm sure his composure would be good." Gross on backup QB A.J. Feeley

What Gross says would contradict the idea that he doesn't know the playbook.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
