Cam on Rehab: Feeling Great

Cam is competitive as hell. He’ll do all he has to to get back to form no doubt. And so for that reason, if he isn’t, we will know he’s done.

If he is back, no one will be unhappy about that.

Cam's major issue since the first surgery was range of motion. If that's fixed, his arm strength should return. Should also help with the fatigue issue

Im trying to figure out how you INCREASE range of motion in a 30 year old throwing athlete's shoulder after 2 operations?  If anything after 2 surgeries his entire shoulder joint will be much tighter with much less RoM.  I sincerely hope this is not the case with Cam and he comes out lighting it up this year.  I have my reservations though...

The second surgery was done to clean up his shoulder. Basically the first injury was a tear to his rotator cuff. Since then there was some damage done to his cartilage in his shoulder. This surgery was to clean that up.

To my understanding, the scar tissue was what was limiting his ROM.

Also the 2nd procedure was more of a scope than ''surgery'' per se. Think oil change after the build up lol.

To me the media is just hyping it because it garners attention, no one outside of a Panther's fan base really knows what's going on so they bite on the '' exaggerated POV '' from the media, hell even more casual fans don't really seem to know what's actually going on in a lot of cases surrounding the team.

I think Kalil went on air prior to the (11-5) season and broke it down a bit. Think it was the Rich Eisen show / podcast. Paraphrasing basically said the OG surgery wasn't as big a deal as it was made out to be. I think the 11-5 year backed that up, same as the 6-2 start, All goes back to the TJ Watt hit for me...

Right, but wont going in there again create even more scar tissue?  I know they can go in and clean it up, but wouldnt the simple fact of another invasive operation create more scar tissue?

Yes the team went 11-5 but Cam didn't throw down the field well that season or really since the surgery. He's had range issues since middle of that 11-5 season and it's just gotten worse and worse. I do think the watt hit made everything that much worse though.

It wasn't just scar damage, there was some direct cartilage damage from the limited range and additional pressure being put on the shoulder

Yeah, I remember the doc commenting on the "cartilage not being as bad as they thought," but, I wasnt sure how that tied into the scar tissue.

I am basing what Im saying off of my own personal experience.  Mind you I was never in the same galaxy athletically or physically as Cam, but a shoulder is a shoulder, and surgery is surgery.  I tore my rotator cuff / labrum and had orthoscopic surgery to fix it.  They made it so tight that I could not lift my arm over my head for about 2 years.  I was a pitcher all the way thru college, and my arm was never the same.  I just know that once you go in and start messing with a throwers shoulder, very rarely do good things happen.
