What would help our pass rush more than anything is Short actually being in that race. He's paid to be a disruptive force but he played like a JAG last year. That Pro Bowl appearance was a joke.

He had 1 off year

But not going to fault him for it.

Was his only "Bad" season since being here

And dont use the, he got payed so his effort dropped excuse.  He was one of the top Interior DL in the league the season after he signed the big deal

Sorry man, he's had two back to back dud seasons. One more and he's a cap casualty. He has 5 sacks in the last two seasons combined while being paid like an elite pass rushing three technique. Time for him to start playing like it or time for us to free up a bunch of cap space and find someone else.

Back to back

You do realize

2 season ago he was among the top interior DL in the whole league.  Including More Sacks And TFL than the Fletcher Cox's

People automatically think he had a bad year 2 seasons ago because his year last season and the play around him.  Without going back and looking at sacks and film

I accidently looked at his stats backwards looking at his first two seasons instead of his last two. That's what happens when you're running off of 3 hours of sleep.

Two years ago he had 7.5 sacks. That's solid. Not game changing, but solid. We paid him based off of his 11 sack season during his contract year. Right now, that 11 sack season is looking like an anomaly. It's looking like we paid a good player like an elite player. I just hope he gets back to being "good" this year.

Not really

Again, it Very rare to see interior DL put up 11+ sacks on a consistent basis.

KK is getting paid Less than Cox but atill put better numbers.  And the other top tier (minus Donald) Interior guys that are getting paid that "elite" $$$.  He is on par if not producing better than some of them.

It's not just about sacks either. The guy was getting completely washed put of the play routinely by single blockers. He was a JAG all the way around.

Washed out?

As in he still was getting into the backfield and more TFL than the Cox's who are getting paid more than him?

A lot of these other guys dont have a Luke either.  That is a heat seeking missle shooting through and gobbling up those TFL's which KK taking on those blockers and letting Luke get through untouched.  Doesnt get the credit that is due

Hard to make too much of last year when the whole DLine regressed.  Washington focusing on the line this year should give us a better performance and more pressure. Short had an off year in 2018 but who didn't.

    • If we divide the league up into quarters you need to be able to make 8 worse starting QBs for him not to be bottom tier. Who are they?
    • It just doesn't add up to what we're watching. It feels like you're trying to convince yourself that Bryce can just make a few adjustments and pan out. You say he turns the ball over because he's over aggressive and I just don't see that. A lot of his turnovers are just bad throws oftentimes because the balls sails in him. The fumble issues? I mean, you have the smallest QB in the NFL getting hit by extremely large powerful kej who knows based on film study that this guy is prone to coughing up the ball. If you're being hit by a much larger, much more powerful man intent on removing the ball from your possession you're gonna lose that battle a decent amount of the time. I think some of it is due to bad footwork but some of it is also that when there's traffic in front of him he has to try to get the ball up and over that pressure due to his lack of height. His release point it just several inches lower than most NFL QBs, no way around it. You saying it's more difficult than simply looking at outcomes while completely leaning on situational stats to try to convince people their eyes are lying to them and Bryce's arm isn't a significantly limiting factor in his game. Some people are hyperbolic about his lack of arm strength but honestly he has one of the weakest arms in the league. That's just reality if you objectively watch him play versus other NFL QBs. If he had time in a clean pocket and can step up into and through his throw he can make most throws but that's the problem, for him to make the tougher throws everything has to go perfect. If there's pressure pushing him off his spot or pressure in front of him where he can't step up or has to try to loft the pass over the scrum it's probably ending in a poor result. The problem is that's a commonplace scenario in the NFL. It wasn't at Alabama. Trust your own QB analytical system. Bryce being very the bottom of the league matches up perfectly with the eye test of just watching him olay
    • If he wanted to be as irrelevant as possible in his final year he's achieving it.
