If any of you have concerns about McCoy as a 3-4 DE

free safety.

With the great contract Hurney signed McCoy to, there is still room for a vet safety

Rivera's defenses have always been built around the front 7.  We've had more top 10 and 5 defenses than not under Rivera and never really had "stud" safety play other than that 2015 performance by Coleman.

The biggest gripe on Gaulden is his athletic ability, and is the big reason why we question the FS spot.

I believe it was @Jeremy Igomentioned he didnt look bad in camps so far.  And actually pointed out 1 play in a practice where he was keeping up with one of our faster WRs.  So this front 7, our Safety play shouldn't be that concerning.  And if it is.  We will still uave about 6 mil floating around after this and the rookies sign

Yep, I've acknowledged this in other posts. I just don't see why we seem so hell-bent on seemingly trying to prove that we can field an elite defense without a legit FS. I mean, you'd be hard pressed to have a worse FS history than the Carolina Panthers. This issue predates Ron and Hurney.

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
