Can’t deny stats

Real deal .. Cam just needs to show everyone that he can win the big game to solidify a history  of dominance.

Unfortunately stats and field cred disappear pretty quickly if you don’t have that signature/big baller  win.

The league is different now than it was before and it has changed in a lot of ways.

The times they are a changing. The more things change the more they stay the same. Time may change me but I can"t change time.

Different league now and then

You’re right it is different, but should that matter? If it were that big of a deal, why does everyone go nuts about Brees breaking Marino’s record a while back? It was a different league back then too right, but not one discredits Brees. Same said for these stats. New players stats are always compared to older players, it’s not uncommon. I’m Cams first 8 years he has less ints than Jim Kelly in his first 8 years. Modern NFL passes way more, so by that logic, wouldn’t Newton have more INTs?

heres their comparisons:

Can't even begin to compare the two.

In Montana's first full season as a starter, 2 quarterbacks threw for 4000 plus yards.  In Cam Newton's first season, 10 of them threw for 4000 yards and three threw for 5000.  Of the top 10 qb's yardage wise in 1980, only two of them completed more than 60% of their passes.  In 2011, all of the top 10 completed more than 60%.   In 1980, over half of the top 10 qb's in yards had more than 20 interceptions.  In 2011, only 1 did.    The rules and styles were just different than they are now.

No.

DB's could get away with more, and qb's were far less protected than they are now.   The average starter in Joe Montana's first season had 20 plus int's.   Dan Fouts had 24, and was considered by many to be the best qb in the NFL that year.  In Cam's first season, he had 17 and that was one of the higher numbers in the NFL for starters.

Oh I think Joe is the GOAT and in no way do I think Cam is Montana. I just thought it was a neat comparison and Cam deserves more credit than he gets poo.

I think if Cam's arm is healthy, he is one of the better qb's in the NFL.

I am just not a fan of comparing qb's from different era's.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
