Team drills. Ross Cockrell at first team safety with Reid; Cole Luke at nickel.

Interesting. Ross Cockrell lined up at free safety as Panthers begin move the ball drill.

I'm just glad we're exploring our current options and not putting all of our eggs in the Gaulden basket. Cockrell was a good football player prior to the injury. Maybe he can be our FS. I don't know, I'm just glad we're giving it a look

Perhaps he can be a passable FS?  It seems to me that the same skills that make someone a good CB would also make them a good safety.

I completely agree but this is one situation that is mind boggling if you believe you may have to play a player at a brand new position why not just address the issue. Ross may be a very good cirner I’d like to see him get a chance to flourish, but now when he makes mistakes he’ll get criticism even though we’re the ones putting him in a very very difficult situation. I’ve seen other corners with experience change over later in their career based off football iq etc but Ross still kinda early in his career but maybe this’ll be the career calling you never know (positive thinking) but I’m gonna be disappointed if he drops him out of being a productive player into a liability.

We just don't value FS enough to invest significant resources and when we do invest a decently significant investment (3rd rounder on Gaulden) we make a head scratching pick on a painfully below average NFL athlete.

I think there's a pretty decent chance that our eventual starting safety is some scrub vet who fails to make someone's final roster.

I see your point, but they know whether he is a decent #3 or #4 CB or not. If he is, he will not be cut. I think it's smart to see of he can play S in TC. If he catches on quick and does well, that would be a great move. If not, keep him as that backup CB.

As far as this off season..how should we have addressed it?  Who do we give up to pursue a starting caliber safety?  Paradis?  McCoy?

Were there some safeties still on the board when we picked Grier?  Sure.  Do I trust any of the safeties that went in the 4th round to start their rookie year?  No.

Sometimes after the draft you scratch your head and wonder. If any of us pre draft folks were given an option where we could get DJ Moore in the first and Justin Reid for our two 3rds, we would have done it in a heartbeat. We easily could have had a potential pro-Bowl safety who looked great as a rookie but waited 17 picks and got Gaulden.

I’m not even bashing Gaulden but he had nowhere near Reid’s ceiling so you have to make that move.

I get it man, but you've kinda beat that Justin Reid drum to death.

    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
    • Nah we just talking about giving a platform and normalizing predators (who both beat women) opinions and celebrating it if it fits your narrative.  If that's fun I'm fine being a miserable fug by not supporting P.O.S like that. N b4 you call me a libtard or some other dumb ish know I'm an Anarchist/Libertarian and believe both these dudes should get a complete ass whooping (at min) or something worse for what they have done to women in this world.
