it was only a couple years ago....that any rookie touching the field in year 1 was considered  bad management.   That was top QBs picked. 

now people are like, dang if the 3rd round rookie isn't ready to be good week 3 of his rookie year it was a wasted pick.

A sixth round rookie from the 2019 draft went 45 of 58 for 488 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT (also 3 fumbles) Sunday. Don't tell me a 3rd rounder can't be ready.

Pretty much.

I expected that if we were to draft a quarterback this year, he'd be about the future. Also believed that leadership would have a veteran quarterback handling the backup role.

I kinda figured the backup would be somebody a little more "veteran" than Kyle Allen, though.

That's a question for the Hurney and company. I'm just saying let Grier have some time to learn. Allen needs to develop also but I believe he is further along mentally which is why he is the #2 QB right now.

Did I miss a memo that the NFL is folding after this season? That'd be the only reason you could so prematurely call essentially a fourth round pick a "waste".

personally i am a fan of trading up into the top 40 picks for a guy who can't win a starting gig over a bad player

and also spending a top 100 pick on a QB who is bad and can't beat out a UDFA QB

Well I messed up. That was part of Week 1 and all of Week 2 combined, not just Sunday. Still, decent stats for a 6th rounder.

The real problem comes next off season

If Cam cant return to top form and the Panthers get a top pick and draft a Qb

then drafting Grier was a wasted pick
