Cam is great...but he's 0-8 in his last eight games. This is a what have you done for me lately league. Not what did you do for me 2 years ago. If Allen wins then hes the guy.

Cam will certainly get to come back as the starter for Carolina once he has healed up, whenever that may be. He's earned the opportunity to do so and because his ceiling is so high he could even lose two to three games to start off and not be in jeopardy of losing the spot.

However, it would be silly to think that he won't be evaluated heavily during that time. Kyle is going to be building up a resume during this period (for good or for bad, we've only had the two games) and there's going to be both dollars and team success figured into the discussion. Cam's contract is nearing its close and there's a lot of money hanging out there, Allen is a much less expensive option.

The truth is, though, that no matter what it all rides on Cam and how he plays. There really are no factors as big as that. If he's Superman again then his future looks bright. If he is just a QB who can win and shows some mobility, then he's going to get another contract. If what we saw before was the new normal, it's going to be a sad day for us all.

I hope he comes back recuperated, rejuvenated and rededicated... I'll certainly be cheering for him. If not, the guy is still going down in history as one of the greats, but let's not bury him quite yet.

NFL football teams are business franchises..........the best way to increase their market value is to find a winning formula.

Players while garnering lots of fan interest....... are at the end of the day replaceable chess pieces on the board...........

Allen is yet unproven and needs to be evaluated against better competition....while Cam has been a physical QB who is getting long in the tooth......neither is a given for the future at this point....................take it one game at a time through this year and be prepared to make some serious assessments during the next offseason.

I'd put it this way...

If I'm the owner of a team, and I'm asking you as a head coach to explain roster decisions you've made, the rationale behind every last damn one of them better be that you thought this was the best way to win.

If I ever heard you say that you didn't think something was fair, you didn't want to hurt a player's feelings or you didn't want to annoy the fans, I'd fire you right on the spot.

It's a football decision. Nothing else matters.

When you take the field, you do so with the mindset that you are capable of getting the job done.  Fans lost an entire season (for ticket holders, that is a lot of money) watching the Panthers go through the motions.  Cam should have gone to IR--blame Cam, blame RR, blame the team doctors--regardless, Cam was paid over 1 million a game to suck while season ticket holders got crappy football in return.

If you think we owe Cam, RR, etc. an apology--if you think we should absorb 9 straight Newton losses without any negative criticism, then your perspective is different than mine. 

We may have lost 2 seasons because Cam took the field knowing that he could not get the job done.  If that is true, we should be appreciative and happy?  It is not personal.  We thank Cam for 2015 and all he has done for us--but he was paid handsomely for that.  Maybe he gets it back, but if not, can we not celebrate a possible diamond in the rough?  Are we not supposed to be giddy about the ball getting out on time and on target?  Been a while.

I like Cam, but Panther fans are, for the most part, the only ones that think he will be a hall of fame qb at this point in his career.  He will only be a hall of famer if he can stay healthy, gets back to playing as well as he did 2013-2015, and we get a couple of SB wins.   I hope he does get back to that level.  It would be good for him and great for us.  But right now, the jury is out.
