Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Bucs - Info and discussion

This week the Carolina Panthers travel across the pond to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the second time this season.

The Panthers lost to the Buccaneers in week 2.

Here is a look at where these teams stand now.

Much has changed since week 2. The Panthers, now riding a 3 game win streak, look like the superior team on paper.

The Bucs have a glaring weakness in their pass defense. It is as bad as Arizona's. This could be good news for Kyle Allen as he put up the second best QBR in Panthers history against the Cardinals.

Here are the Panthers that currently rank in the top ten across the league for specific stats...

Brian Burns ranking 9th in the league for QB hits is an amazing stat for a rookie.

Overall Thoughts

Playing in England here is the X Factor. Does Ron give Obada a few extra reps to see if he has any hometown cooking?

The Panthers will be hungry for redemption after losing what really should have been a win a few weeks ago.

If the Panthers can win they will be riding a four game win streak going into the bye and a possible Cam Newton return, giving him a 4-2 record to run with. Not too shabby.

Hoping to see how we change our approach vs the Buccaneers. Last time, seemed we wanted to take advantage of some deep looks, but due to Cam's injury that wasn't feasible.

Against the Jaguars, the Panthers set a lot of motions and plays up to establish run lanes for CMC, including that 84 yard rush thanks to a Samuel sweep look holding Myles Jack that was shown earlier in the game. I expect the Panthers do the opposite and set up plays for the pass against the Bucs and feast on their porous secondary.

I expect Kyle Allen to have a good game, hopefully ironing out some of his deficiencies and establishing himself as a good placeholder until Cam is truly 100%. Just has to trust his deep ball a bit more and try not underthrowing like he often has. He's got the potential, he just needs to not worry about overthrowing Curtis Samuel, because his underthrows are killing potential touchdowns.

We almost won the first meeting with a banged up Cam. Now we have a QB who can throw the long ball and seems to be handling the game better than any of us imagined.

We also have a QB that has only four games of tape available for study...

I think this will be a better game and one where we take advantage of their passing defense. And we won't be surprised by Shaq Barrett like before.

And please, let Obada be a captain for this game, it would just be so cool!

Where was the long ball against the 2-3 Jags who were without Jalen Ramsey? How many 30+ yard completions did we have on the day, 1 or 2?

If we can't get some long passes on the Bucs pass defense, November and December might not be too kind to the Panthers.

Ron cost us the first game by letting an obviously injured Cam play. Allen will be asked to make throws against their terrible secondary, hopefully he can do it and loosen up their front 7.

Their o-line gave up 6 sacks last week, Mario and Co have to take advantage and pressure Winston into bad decisions.

Evans is pissed he isn’t getting targets, expect Bradberry to see a few balls thrown his way.

Would like to give props to GMC whose name wasn’t listed in the rankings... he’s 8th or 9th in qb pressures among IL..

The long ball didn't have to happen against them I guess. I do agree that we really need to see some long shots taken out there this weekend and the Bucs defense seems to be a good team to work them out against.

    • Also, the fact we are comparing this one to the 10 preseason tells me we are in for another horrible year.
    • Well, they're both in the same league (if you will). During preseason, Fitz went 3/3 & Sauls went 5/6, but of course Sauls was 4/4 last night (including one 50+). Both were Lou Groza Award finalists. I believe Fitz made two 55+ yarders last season, while Sauls led the nation with three. Fitz was 13/13 (💯) while Sauls was 21/24 (87.5). Fitz was a 3rd-Team AP All-American, while Sauls was a PFF All-American.  Career-wise, Fitz was 58/74 (78.4), while Sauls was 52/64 (81.3). I wish that I could see the attempts and knew the depth of yardage. I wish that we could compare practice kicks during their training camps, but we can't. Maybe someone with a PFF/CFF account can give that Basically it's just a matter of belief I guess. Seeing dude knock down four FGs and go perfect during a pressure-filled game for him is damned impressive if you ask me. I don't believe that Fitzgerald could do that.  That being said, I'd have to know more. I will say that it may be worth mentioning that we seem to like PFF this year and Sauls being a PFF All-American may be notable. Now that being said, the Panthers may not be even considering Sauls.
    • Ive said it 1000x times on here.  Our 2025 season will be dictated by the first 4 games.  poo the bed there and lose all confidence and momentum, we win 5 games maybe.  Go 2-2, 3-1 we got a look at 7/8 wins
