I don't think we can bench Kyle Allen...

Kyle is 4-0, he has a 108 QBR, he has made the tempo of this offense unbelievably good, and his ability to get it to all the weapons is superior than trying to fit Cam rushing back in, and working on Cam's timing for a few games. The reality is that we have to win the division, the wildcard situation is nuts, and we cannot afford to take a couple of games to get him reinstalled, wonder if he is really healthy, risking him getting injured again, and swing this momentum any other way but the way it is trending right now. It's much better to let Cam get healthy and take the wait and see approach with our potential future at QB, because at this point, who really knows? Cam is the better QB when healhty, no question about that, but can he stay healthy? Keep in mind, on those five throws where it was perfectly placed and dropped, he would have been over 300 yards and possibly another TD.

Panthers need to see what they have in a healthy Cam. Going into the last year of his contract, if he doesn’t show he can still be a top qb he might be playing somewhere else.

The Panthers need to play the guy that gives them the best chance to win regardless of what consequences it has for Newton, Allen or anybody else..

Who that is right now is the only question that matters.

That was in a previous era of football, before the NFL started handicapping defenses to create high scoring games on the regular.

So in today's NFL, an effective game manager isn't good enough for a ring?  That's only a yesteryear thing?  I would personally disagree.

It's funny that in the era of fantasy football "game manager" is a four-letter word.

I really do wish people would stop using that phrase as if it were a bad thing.

Managing a game effectively is a big part of what every quarterback does.

Yes, exactly. The rules are too friendly to offenses and the playoffs are stacked with the top offenses. You're not likely to get to the SB without winning a shootout at some point. That wasn't necessarily the case 20 years ago.

Brady is arguably the biggest "game manager" in the NFL.

You can't

I don't care what side you are on (personally, I'm on the whoever gives us the best chance to win side), you don't bench a QB who is 5-0 as a starter and the team is rolling. Momentum and chemistry is a real thing, and we have that right now. The WORST thing that could kill this momentum and cause division among the locker room is to trot Cam out against the 49ers and we lose his first game back. That would totally derail our whole season. Just roll with Allen until he strings together some bad games or L's.

    • I'm not a huge fan of BY, but he does have some clutchness developing
    • While you're correct, people are just sick of being told, "you don't understand this, you're dumb" despite what their eyes say. This applies to the Panthers and anything else in life. This board can be a miserable place, but this isn't the old days anymore because Social Media & Reddit have hijacked old-school forum users.  I have in the last year or so taken a massive step back from Social Media & Reddit. Deleted accounts on both, I only have X/Twitter now. But I was looking for an outlet for Panthers talk and I did not want to do that on X much at all. There are only two legitimate outlets for that I've found, here and SB Nation. SB Nation I used to partake in, but they absolutely bumble-f*cked the comments section, and I like the setup of the posts + comments, as opposed to article + comments. Also, as others have pointed out, being a Panthers fan has been a horrendous existence since Cam left. Just an awful crew of coaches, draft picks, trading away great players, etc. It's been miserable.  Ever since Tepper bought the team, I hoped that he commit to a full rebuild. He never did, he thought there were shortcuts and so did Rhule. This hamstrung us for years, and then he massively overstepped with the BY trade.  This ruined the team building, because there was no depth, and then it ruined nuanced BY discussions because of the insane haul we gave up. He will never live up to that, I think many people are finally wrapping their heads around that now which is good. The best thing for this board to get better is for the Panthers to win more, draft well, and to stay committed to crawling through this Andy Dufrense poop-pipe to escape the depths of NFL hell. It will be ugly and stink along the way, but you can see already this year if we commit to drafting then the team and the vibes can turn around quicker than you think.  I am extremely optimistic about the draft class this season, it's something to watch, talk about, and celebrate. It also gives Dan and I think by extension Dave Canales more of a leash, which I think we need to give them and grant them the time to turn this boat around.
