Games 6, 7, and 8 prior to the steelers injury game

Game 6: 275 pass yards 2/1 TD/int 67.5% comp

Game 7: 219 pass yards 2/0 TD/int 72.4% comp

Game 8: 247 pass yards 2/0 TD/int 76% comp

Ps: Allen hasnt completed over 65% in this 4 game stretch

go watch.  i don't know where you were but everyone on this board knew he was hurt before those games.  we talked about it non-stop.  this is not a shot at cam, its reality, and its reality that teams are going to make him prove he can throw accurately down the field.

All these people lashing out because of the success with Allen are just scared I suppose. This is purely psychological because it sure isnt rational.

Watched it, and rewatched it on game passes

Cam isnt completing those pct #s etc with a "sore shoulder etc etc"

And everyone on the this board didnt mention that

They were all talking about

1. How great Norv is and how much better was

2. How Cam was putting better #s than his MVP season

3. How the OL is Trash with Clark and was going to get Cam killed (they did vs the Steelers)

4. How terrible the D was. Rivera agreed with the fans, took over playcalling, and went to a new scheme this off season

What made Cam different from the average Joe is his ability to run and 70 yard bombs of his back foot.  Now, he can’t run and he can’t throw bombs.  What you get with Cam now is an average QB.  Cam is not a field general like Tom Brady... he’s a mobile QB.  Cam career completion average is below 60% and his QB rating is in mid 80s.

and how he couldn't throw the ball 30 yards.   and so much yes on #4 and why the hell he didn't take over playcalling earlier.

I read this article this morning.  It makes some good points, but the biggest one to me is you have to give Cam a chance to show that he's healthy and what he can do for us.

Everyone ready to ship Cam off hasn't learned the lessons of FitzMagic or Matt Moore.  Bucky Brooks was on another show (just popped up in my YT feed) where he made that exact point (and why I am using it as well).  There have been TONS of QBs who have been flashes in the pan, who have have short bursts of brilliance, but they then slide into mediocrity.  We don't know who Kyle Allen will become, but let's not let Cam go right now.

You have to give your Franchise QB a chance earn his job back.  On Cam, he's going to have to prove that he's back to being Super Cam, or at least 6-2 Cam 2018.  If not, you short change yourself, him, and your playoff chances.  Cam has to be 100% before he trots out there.

I think that Cam will practice for a few more weeks with the team before the put him on the field.  Sure, the team has rallied around Allen, and it could be a legitimate controversy when Cam does play again.  But you have to see what he has left to give before you give up on him.  Would you want to see Cam in a Tampa uniform coming for blood twice a year, leading the Bucs to success?

Agreed, but I think the percentage of people saying ship Cam off is extremely low. What I see right now is some people saying Allen might be more than just a backup, and people taking a reactionary response of "DON"T GET RID OF CAM!" The team is in a true dilemma because it needs to evaluate both players extensively, but only has one football team and only one qb can play at a time. Given Cam's stature as the face of the franchise and the size of his contract, I think ultimately you have to give priority to evaluating him, but people have at least two legitimate concerns about this:

1. No matter how good Cam looks when he comes back, his age and injury history mean we can never be 100% certain he'll be able to perform long term, particularly if he continues to run, so it's a gamble if we keep him and extend him.

2. People are worried that if he comes back and plays poorly it will tank our playoff chances this season with the challenging schedule lying ahead. I am personally less concerned about this because A) There's no guarantee Allen would be able to get us to the playoffs either and B) I view the issue of evaluating these two qb's as being of long term importance and supersedes just making the playoffs this year, but that's just my two cents.

1. He was throwing bombs all camp.  Guess you missed the daily Samuel hype bombs

2. If his foot is TRUELY 100%, why cant he run?  Did I miss something, the he hurt something else?

    • Um, no, just no. Bills, Chiefs, Chargers, Ravens, Bengals, Texans, Eagles, Commanders are 8 teams that it's not even a debate, they aren't trading their QB for Purdy. Patriots, Broncos, Titans, Giants, Bears, Vikings, Falcons are 7 more teams with QBs drafted in the last 2 years that also would rather stick with them than trade for Purdy as they all have more upside than he does. Lions, Packers, Cowboys, Bucs are 4 more that would likely keep their QB's as well, age aside for Goff, Dak, and Baker. Panthers and Colts are two teams in the same situation, QB's who have both struggled and shown flashes to where the teams probably stick with them because they drafted them, but in a re-draft of all QB's, they probably take Purdy over the guy they currently have. Jags, Cardinals, Dolphins, are 3 more with QB's who probably have a higher upside than Purdy but come with their own question marks, so debatable if they'd take Purdy over who they already have. That leaves Jets, Raiders, Steelers, Browns, Saints, Seahawks, and Rams. Rams would take him over Stafford for the future of course, but not for 2025, and I'd think the Seahawks would take him over Darnold, but honestly not sure if they would take him over Milroe at this moment as they really like his potential and have him for 4 years really cheap. That leaves 5 teams that I see who would absolutely take him over their current situation right now, and a handful of others who MIGHT take him over their current guy, a far cry from your 20.
    • Agreed. Also as soon as they received the top pick in the next draft it was over. Bears won that trade. Gave up a top overall pick got one the next year plus pick 9, a couple 2nds, and DJ Moore a proven young WR. Had their 2024 pick from us be in the late teens or later it would be more debatable IMO.
    • Option A:  Pay your starting QB starting QB money. Option B:  Look for a starting QB for 4-10 years (or longer) while wasting the talent at every other position.    How many of the top 20 QB's do you think are worth what they are being paid?   When you factor in the last year of his present deal his contract is really an average of 45 million per year which in today's QB market is a very, very good deal. I wish we'd had found a Brock Purdy to pay 50+ million a year right after we parted ways with Cam.  Ya'll go ahead and live in fairy tale land where good to great (much less elite) QB's are available to pay. Just the fact that they had the chance to pay Brock after the disaster of trading up for Lance is a testament that when you find a quarter back you can win with, complete in the playoffs and superbowls with, you pay him.
