Riverboat presser: Kyle will start this week.

Shouldn't be surprising news to anyone, including San Fran. There's no hand to play from the staff to try and deceive the 49ers so they have to plan for two quarterbacks. If a guy who is recovering from a lisfranc injury still hasn't practiced at all yet he's clearly not playing this week.

My take is they wanna roll with Allen all season unless he shots the bed. Cams future w us is dubious if Allen performs well

Common sense dictates that would tend to be the most likely scenario.

As far as the QB room, I'm much more comfortable potentially entering the postseason with both Allen and Newton.

Next year is when things are going to get interesting. We have some key contract extensions looming and tough decisions to make, and the quarterback position is only one of those.

Let's call this what it is: Kyle Allen's audition to be the new permanent quarterback for us. If he goes out there and looks fantastic, it's entirely possible that we never see Cam Newton in a Panthers uniform again. If he looks terrible, Cam will magically be healed and will start against Tennessee.

Pulling Allen if he eventually has a "bad game" like any other quarterback who has ever played the sport is not the way things actually work if you are a team looking to compete for a championship. That's from a fan perspective. The same type of fan that litters remarks like "0-9" as the end all be all for Cam Newton despite an obviously substantially larger body of work over the years that clearly suggests otherwise.

I dont understand why anybody continues to ride this train. You really think cam just has a lil booboo and sitting somewhere completely refreshed? What more needs to proven that he has a serious injury thats gonna take time? If they even think about putting him back in and he is not healthy staff should be fired on the spot doesn't matter if allen is playing fanastic or complete garbage.

[This following isn't threadworthy. I can't verify the veracity of it. And I don't claim to be a reporter. But it's been on my mind and I feel like sharing it somewhere. So read with with a grain of salt. Or don't. I don't care:]

I ended up having a conversation over the weekend with a person whose parents use the same "fish guy" as Cam Newton (I know, I know. But literally 80% of people in here with no credentials are pontificating over his health, and Web MD-ing the recovery period for a Lisfranc, so you really gonna point fingers?) The gist of it was, Cam's injury was more serious than is being let on, he's interested in spending more time with his family, he's young with lots of cash, and suggested he may be considering pulling an Andrew Luck. The person I talked to was confident he'd played his last snap as a Panther.

[Again, this is a third-hand account! I don't know how much truth, if any is in it. But it is interesting considering this Monday announcement when everyone was speculating he'd be back after the bye. I guess we'll just wait and see.]
