GAME RECAPS

2019 Week 1 vs NE (10 / 3 / 7 / 0 rec)

The next week for Donte Moncrief may be spent purely on the jugs machine. After being the most targeted wide receiver for the Steelers, Moncrief ended the night with at least four drops, including an 18-yard touchdown which was thrown perfectly. He also had a second end zone target where Ben Roethlisberger was not able to throw the fade route well enough and Moncrief could not get to his spot fast enough. Moncrief showed no tenacity when catching the ball and allowed defenders to separate him from the ball multiple times. The times Moncrief did catch the ball were on shallow crossing routes over the middle where defenders couldn't create contested catch situation.

2019 Week 2 vs SEA (1 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)

Being targeted only once should be bad enough for Moncrief, but he did maximum damage with his target on the day. On a routine catch, Moncrief missed the reception and tipped the ball in the air with a defender waiting behind him. The defender showed better hands than Donte Moncrief, securing the tipped ball and intercepting Mason Rudolph on his first drive. Moncrief was benched immediately. Moncrief's drop count currently rests at five going into Week 3.

Yikes.

He was trending up every year after indy drafted him in 14, in the 3rd round, until injuries derailed him in 16 and 17. It seems to be in his head, maybe we can get his confidence back up. He was having average seasons of 600 to 700 yds with Indy, that would be great for a 3rd wr if he can return to form. Hes 6"3 216, runs a 4.40 40 and has a 39.5 verticle. Impressive in that department, hes just got to get them hands right. He also has the ability to take the top off a defense, he cought a 80 yard td while with jacksonville I belive, so lets hope and be positive! He is also only 26 years old.

Jags gave him a Funch-like 1 year 10 million dollar contract (bust) and then signed a deal with Pitt for 2 yr 6 mill. (bust)

God dam if i dont prefer Flash over him and the fact he went to the seachickens burns more.

This is just first glance, high level analysis. I’ve pulled some tape on his last two seasons. I’ll try to give you a better breakdown tonight. Get what they’re looking for. Size, with speed. It’s one thing they lack right now, that combo. The hands are an issue. I’ll take a closer look, and see what kind of product they’re getting. Reuniting with his old position coach is never a bad thing.

    • Can't keep pining for what never happened....but for god sakes, DeJean, Frazier... and we got this dude in a R1 trade up.  The most notable blunder of this era, that's for sure.
    • Overall, fine.  Wish we landed a guy to pair with Lloyd but I presume this means they're giving Trevin one final year to put it together (72nd overall 2 years back).  Flashed potential year 1, had a dud last year.   R1: Freeling LT - Great value and a need; landed our new long term LT that could end up starting off the bat.  Icky had a terrible injury and is not playing in his contract year.  Walker is what he is on a 1-year rental, who even knows how he fits. You get premier OTs early if you can find em' and he has what you want.  I thought he could have gone as high as 6/CLE pre-draft, so am a big fan of the selection.  Looking at this class, he's one of the guys at the top that is like "okay that's the LT".  Others have this right/left or G/T type discussion about them.  Freeling is an LT.   R2: Hunter NT - We didn't really have anyone replacing A'Shawn's snaps in our rotation.  Wharton & Brown aren't 3 downers so adding Hunter to the mix fills a big void. I dug deep into S and LB this draft so was a bit to zeroed in - In recognize the value and impact add in the trenches. R3: Brazzell WR - Intriguing.  Given our history, I don't really want to place any expectations here, but a different style weapon for Bryce. I pretty much expect a WR drafted yearly with this regime. Other notables.. Hecht C - These are the type of rounds where starting centers have been found.  We got a starter for this year, but Hecht seems pretty capable and I like it for a long term find.  SOLID AF.  Wheatley S - A pretty well regarded safety prospect.  And we see it every year (like this one) safeties get hyped, people think they may go sooner than expected, and the league reminds them how it rolls.  Plenty of nice safeties have been found in the 4th-6th in recent years.  Big fan of Wheatley. Can't say I know enough about Lee or the others.
