More of a shot at that hack of a reporter than anything.

Disagree. Rapoport is right way more than he's wrong. And truth be told, the NFL tends to feed him the best stories.

Now, if you want to take a shot at a guy who's hit or miss, Jason La Canfora fits that description much better. In prior years, so did Adam Schefter but he's gotten better.

Bottom Line though, reporters' reputations don't really matter if the information they have is true.

Not sure of the policy regarding trading players on IR. Is it possible? What about after the season ends?

Well, you can't trade anybody right now. And IR designations end when the season ends.

To be clear though, you are allowed to trade players on IR. It's just not easy to find a trade partner when somebody is hurt that badly.

Right so after the season ends it’s up to the trading partners to propose a trade given health of the player?

Rapoport is the most tuned in insider in the biz.

Yeah, he's also a guy that reports anything with zero filter, which is why he gets so much poo wrong all the time. He's barely a reporter, just a guy spewing rumors and speculation. He gets a bunch right because he has connections but he gets a bunch wrong because he isn't good at his job.

Right. The official IR designation ends when the league year ends. You've still got to consider how healthy you really think they are though.

No one can be traded until the start of the new league year which is in mid March. Trades can obviously be discussed prior to that and they often leak but they can’t become official until the new year starts. Generally these things will get worked out at the combine in late February when all the FO and coaches are together.

And just to be clear, nobody does any tampering :Eyes_Emoji_42x42:

It's not really weird if you simply go by the assumption that the reports before the bye were just wrong. Those guys are often wrong and just putting stories out. Doctors can say surgery is optional and not necessary and Newton can mull it over. It doesnt have to be a scandal just because we get tidbits and try to connect dots.

Let me see if I’ve got this right:

When “reports say” something that matches one’s own pre-conceived notions (for example, “reports” that proclaimed Gettleman wanted to trade up for Fournette), those reports are the gospel truth.

But when “reports say” something opposed to your beliefs about the team (for example, this teams consistent lack of concern with regard to Cam Newton’s health) why, those “reports” are pure rubbish!

Right?

    • The Panthers are going to have a lot more flexibility in free agency than it looks like at first glance. On paper, the cap space might seem tight, but there are several obvious restructure candidates that could easily free up significant room. Between converting base salaries into signing bonuses and spreading cap hits out over future years, Carolina could realistically clear $60–80 million in additional space if they wanted to be aggressive. That kind of flexibility means they’re not stuck. They can extend key young pieces, add help along the offensive line, upgrade the defense, and still be strategic about value signings. Letting Cade Mays test the market makes sense from a leverage standpoint. If he’s willing to come back on a team-friendly deal, great, continuity on the line matters. But if his market price climbs, the Panthers should absolutely explore upgrades. The point is, this front office isn’t boxed in. With cap maneuvering and smart structuring, they have the ability to be active players in free agency rather than sitting on the sidelines like we are used too.
    • Man, that is a lot of guys that played meaningful snaps for us last year we are letting test free agency... Kind of worried we are going to lose Yosh
    • With his play the last few years, pretty sure he quit the league 4 or 5 years ago...
