The Panthers kickoff in a little over three hours and this is the predominant conversation. Man, fug this place. Football is supposed to be fun and this place just absolutely sucks the fun out of it.

You know, it isn't required to participate in threads you don't like.

Realistically we can probably only fetch a second for him due to his recent injury issues and future contract uncertainty.

The teams most likely in the running are Chicago, Denver, LA Chargers (If they move on from Rivers), or Steelers (If Ben Retires).

Raiders aren't likely because Carr is still under contract and honestly a perfectly fine starter. Miam/Cincy isn't an option most likely because they will draft a QB.

So yeah, best case scenario is we trade Cam for a 2nd and maybe another player.

Not worth it for the Panthers to trade Cam. No team is going to give us what he’s worth to us not having any idea what type of player he’ll be. Can we please stop this trade talk?

I completely agree it likely isn't worth it to trade him, but the "rumor mill" has it that ownership has lost faith in him. IF(and this is still an IF, regardless of what Huddlers probably think) this turns out to be true, that is why this thread exists. It's purely hypothetical.

There are only a few teams with a need and the ability to assume that contract, unless they rework his current deal.  Still, I think the benefit here is getting out of the $21m deal--that is like acquiring a good S, C, and WR for Cam.   I think we get the third rounder, knowing a comp pick would be a late third.

The thing is, we really don't have much leverage here. If we are stupid enough to try to move forwards with Kyle Allen, everyone will know that we want to use Cam's 19,000,000 cap hit in free agency because duh. So teams literally have no reason to fork out assets for him, our hand is basically going to be forced and we'll probably just have to end up cutting him. Cam can let it be known that he'll only sign extensions with specific teams.

Smartest thing would be to give him a Kirk Cousins-like extension. I've stayed away from this place for a long time because of how toxic I'm sure it is, but Kyle Allen is a bad QB and will never actually be a true difference maker at the position. Letting a guy who has been elite at the position walk is beyond dumb unless the medicals are that bad.

Anyways, I predict the Patriots get him. Belichick has made multiple offhand comments over the years about how incredible of a player he thinks Cam Newton is. Which makes sense, BB is the greatest coach/talent evaluator in NFL history. He knows a special player when he sees one. I truly wouldn't even be surprised if the Pats are tampering and already have some type of agreement with Cam which motivated Cam to just hang it up for this season. Lol if the Pats get Cam they literally may never lose a game. They already rarely lose with mediocre QB play on a weekly basis. Even Cam at 85% of what he was is a huge upgrade over current Brady (literally this is not a hot take watch any Patriots game Brady never has to make difficult throws)

If it comes down to the choice between trading him and releasing him though, even getting lesser value is better than getting nothing.

On the hopeful front, we've certainly gotten the better end of trades with the Bears before.

(different GM though, sadly)

Yeah, I suppose that boils down to how much that lesser value ends up being. I wouldn't want to trade Cam for anything less than a 3rd rounder, that is for sure.

As for the Bears, they are pretty devoid of good draft capital.
