2020 HC Candidates

people said the same things about John Fox, that he was well regarded around the league and would be hired immediately. and it was true. but that doesn't mean that it was a wrong decision to move on from him. sometimes a coach can be well regarded and decent but it's time for a team to move on in a new direction.

'We could do worse.' Holy crap, is that what we're accepting? Ron has had more losing seasons than winning ones and take away one magical year and he's basically .500. This board is split when discussing the possibility of Mike Tomlin, here. He hasn't had a losing season in 13 years, been to 2 Super Bowls and won one.  But we'll settle for Ron?

Am I the only one who thinks a lot of these searches are flawed? Why is everyone looking for a great 'offensive mind' to run a football team? Shouldn't you look for someone who is a great leader, organizer, motivator and who has a knack for identifying talent (staff and players) who fit his system (or maybe adapt their system to the personnel) and has a similar philosophy to yours (as the owner)? Let that person find the next Sean McVay to be their offensive coordinator.

You want a real off the wall idea.

And its kind of the way the NFL is going with offensive minded.

Young hot shot QB coach/OC doesn't matter experience.

3 of the latest NFL hires have been

Bengals: Zac Taylor- Was QB coach under McVay in LA

Cardinals: Kingsbury- fired from his college gig, but QB coach/offensive minded

Rams- McVay

Teams are trending towards that young QB coach as HC then just hire a vet DC to handle that side

See Wade Phillips pairing with Mcvay, Vance Joseph with Kingsbury..

So

Go get Joe Brady, LSU's OC/QB coach is responsible for Joe Burrow and the turnaround of LSU's offense.  A LSU offense that has been as Vanilla as the John Fox era for 30+ years and turned it to the greatest show on turf overnight.  Brady was also on Sean Payton's staff in New Orleans as a offensive assistant the previous 2 seasons.

Bring in Brady as HC and then find the salty vet DC to have his back, control the D, and help mentor Brady if needed.

If he can turn Joe Burrow, who was beat out by trash Ohio State QBs and had to transfer.   And turn him into the Lock for the #1 pick.  Im sure he can do just fine with Allen and Grier.

I rather go for the real guy Ed Orgeron

McVay is a one hit wonder. Teams have caught up to him. All these McVays 2.0 (Kliff, Zac Taylor, LeFleur) are no where close to McVay. Give me Robert Saleh

I honestly can't wait for a new coach to come in, good or bad, and everyone finds a new reason why this coach is bad and should be replaced.

I get keeping Ron as much as i get firing him but y'all act like a coaching Change is a garunteed fix.

Even coaches like Pederson and McVay are showing their flaws, and I beat half this board watching their runs thought "God I wish that were us."

A shiny new you isn't always better.

McVay and Pederson got to the SB pretty early in their coaching career. Pederson won it. Every coach has flaws but the good ones will learn to change unlike Rivera. Any new coach would be an upgrade over Ron. Just don’t hire no damn Adam Gase or Pat Shurmur who were terrible HC before.

    • This is one of my key concerns lost in the sauce that is the neverending conversation about him evading pressure and the OL. Eventually any QB is going to have to step up into the pocket and show the defense they can still beat them even if they get through. We have a limited QB who cannot consistently do this and as such we are relegated to going back and forth about how successful he was at evading pressure but we have little else to write home about. Tyler Shough stepped up into the pocket and made plays despite being pressured and sacked. He's played in about 35 less games than Bryce Young. That is a problem. And isn't just going to go away. The Bucs are going to do the same thing after watching the film.
    • Oh, absolutely! That doesn't absolve the absolute dogshit hockey that the team played in front of him, though. Only Cane that played well tonight was Bradly Nadeau.
    • Thanks for illustrating my point.  No one in the last several pages of this discussion is suggesting we should hang on to him, but anytime someone says anything less than "take him out back and shoot him" you act like they are. That's either you not understanding what you're reading or just being a nimrod because you can't keep up. (I would have said 'or just sh-tposting' but you're way too emotional on this topic for that) Either way, the result is the same 😆
