Tepper - No decision has been made on Cam

He said what I wanted him to say. As a Newton supporter it would be foolish of him to just come out the blue and say I'm riding with Cam no matter what knowing the situation with his shoulder. No one is asking for blind faith. That said If the shoulder looks good it would be dumb to just give him away before even knowing what it still has left in the tank like many are suggesting. He did say they had talks and they had been positive between he and Cam.

Not sure why everyone wants to say omg he's not committing to cam for the first time in his career and that's the story here. What sane person would say I'm riding with him hell or high water after what has went on the past two seasons. Most of us just want him to be given the opportunity to prove himself before we move on and not lose his career over the foot injury here.

Why won't Cam do that?

Put another way, what other option does he have?

Refuse to play.  People do it all the time now.  Then the Panthers have to make a decision as to whether they keep him on the books, cut him, or trade him and try to get something back.  Cam has a ton of leverage here, and if he holds out, the team has very little.

All of this, of course, assumes he's healthy.  If he isn't, then the decision is "easy."

All I know is Tepper wants to wait until Cam is 100% healthy before he makes his final decision, or so he claims. It could be with a new coaching staff, it could be with the same ol' staff, who knows?

Speculation is that the staff question will be decided before any player questions are.

(i)  ask to see what he can get on the open market or thru trade.

(ii)  asking cam to play in a lame duck contract year doesn't seem like the smart move for anyone.

(iii)  and extending him when nobody knows if his shoulder can make it a year doesn't either.

(iv)  shoulders suck.  you have to rest it and then build it back up slowly, or deal with the pain.

(i)  There's no benefit to the Panthers in this scenario.  Tepper will not allow it to happen.

(ii)  I'd argue it's in Cam's best interests to do exactly that.  In order to get a max deal he's gonna have to play a prove it year.

(iii)  Agreed.  Hence the need for him to play out the final year of his contract.

(iv)  The foot is the problem here, not the shoulder.

Conclusion:

Cam's best interests are subordinate to those of the Carolina Football Panthers.  This notion that Tepper just going to let Cam go out and test the waters to see what he can get for himself is quite humorous.

Tepper is 100% in control.  Now, if Cam makes it through next season and plays great, then he is 100% in control.  I suspect that's a desirable position to be in from Cam's perspective.

How does holding out benefit Cam?  Would be interested in your thoughts and being walked through it to the conclusion that is a good end result for Cam?

he says extend or trade me.  he gets what he wants.  he's done a lot for this org and you want the owner to attempt to treat him like property.   its not gonna happen.   its not in cams interest to play on a 1 year deal.  its not in the panthers interest to extend him yet.    this is what this year of the contract is for - an extension or a trade/release.  its not intended for cam to play.    if cam decides to do it i'll be very surprised.   he'll get better offers than what we have on the table.  this seems real difficult for you to grasp.   i believe you said last week that tepper absolutely owns cam in this situation.  he doesn't.
