Personality Conflicts

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

I think Ron is much softer than Tepper and too much of a nice guy. Afraid of hurting people’s feelings and dealing with tough situations. I think Nippleshorts and Tepper would get along much better. Whoever the next coach is I doubt he’s anything near the type of “player’s coach” Ron was...

A conflict over the use and value of analytics does sound like a very likely possibility

Not really a “personality” conflict though, that’s a conflict in their approach. I honestly think Tepper thinks Ron is a p***y...

When you aren't on the internet, it's possible to respect someone and still disagree with them. I tend to have a gut feeling in line with what you're saying here. Tepper clearly favors analytics and a more dynamic approach than Ron seems comfortable with.

Yeah, if I had to guess, I'd say Tepper's modern approach and Ron's old school approach probably didn't mesh all that well.

Tepper wasn't around as much last season because he was still primarily working on his hedge fund business. His being around more this season might have led to more... abrasive discussions.

I'm sure they had some heart to hearts.  The frustration was obviously growing and things weren't getting better for any sustained period of time.  Also, judging from what Tepper said tonight, he said Ron is still someone he would consider a friend, and obviously someone he admires and respects as a man, FWIW.  He also made it a point to say he wants the next coach to be old school in terms of regimen/discipline but new age in terms of scheme and "analytics."  So, yeah, I'm sure analytics played a role.  I'm sure Ron's loyalty to certain ideas, coaches, and players played a role.  But, I'm thinking La Canfora is just generating some clicks because it sensationalizes it a bit...  I think everything was professional, Ron just wasn't making adjustments and Tepper just couldn't accept it anymore.

I’m a little worried that we could be going down the “meddling owner” road. If the word gets out that this is the case and Rivera had issues with it, could it hurt us attracting coaching talent? No one wants to coach under Snyder, Jones, etc.

Since this is Tepper's first major move on the football side to put his stamp on the organization, we don't know. However, given that he inherited a football operation with a 7 plus year history of one SB losing season and not much else particularly impressive, the fact he waited 2 years to pull the plug implies to me he may be able to walk that fine line between being decisive, and being knee jerk, which is what meddling owners typically do. Tepper not only ran his own hedge fund, but was highly regarded as a star managing partner at Goldman Sachs. Effective managers know how to let their people work without micromanaging. For now I'm inclined based on his business track record and time spent with a top flight NFL operation to give him the benefit of the doubt but only time will tell.

Well, I bought into it when he said that Newton was going to be out several more weeks... Oh wait, that happened.

But yeah, I bought into it when he said that Newton was about to go on injured reserve and... Oh wait, that happened too.

And hell, it wasn't that long ago I fell for his belief that Ron Rivera wasn't going to keep his jo... Oh yeah.

But hey, doggone it, I'm not sure why I even pay any attention to this guy

You can’t be that obtuse can you? Insiders might have access to players, coaches, agents, friends, family etc but you know who they don’t get access to? The guy making the call aka the owner but sure keep on acting like these guys all have Tepper on speed dial with scoops and looking like a damn idiot.

You casually gloss over the owner aspect because when you don’t you’re whole case falls apart. You aren’t knowledgeable and literally just quote twitter while inserting just your own personal opinion on all topics. poo is pathetic

You don’t think Tepper told anyone in the organization about his reasoning? Like the GM or President or even Ron himself when he fired him? Then maybe that person told someone else lower down in the organization who told a reporter?
