I think a lot of people are conflating who he is with how he coached.  I don't.  I think he is an outstanding human being, a great example to others, a leader, etc.  But, he has not been a great coach.  I had several teachers and mentors in life that I looked up to and appreciated, but that doesn't mean they would make great strategists or coaches.

Totally agree.

I'm inclined to chalk it up to the way the national media tends to ignore us. They don't pay attention to what's going on here ESPECIALLY when Cam is not playing, so to them this is out of left field, wheras anyone actually following the team is somewhat less shocked.

Yeah, that's a big part of it.  I had a friend who is a Redskin fan tell me today that he didn't deserve it...  lol, man, I don't have the time.

Imo the only thing that would suggest he should is coaching the team to a Super Bowl. If that criteria gets Ron in, it should also get John Fox in as well, and not to insult either man, but I really don't want our team's Ring of Honor to include two coaches whose records were mediocre overall but managed to come up just short in the big game as their highest acheivement.

he's done more than jake did and he's in

We're really gonna make the man stand up in front of a bunch of reporters and answer questions about his own firing...

If I had to do that I think I'd be tempted to answer every question with either my right middle finger or my left.

I hate this idea.

I get the feeling that Ron wanted to do this.

Well, I somehow doubt someone being fired can really be talked into doing something like this if he doesn't want to, I think Ron is probably okay with it, can't think of a reason he should do it if he weren't. I also expect the questions from local media to be pretty kid glovish in nature, as a sign of respect.

Some of the responses today from posters show how mediocre organizations make mediocre fans. This dude is the best coach we’ve ever had and he was MEDIOCRE. Pray to whatever football gods you believe in that Tepper transforms this organization from top to bottom or we will never see a super bowl trophy in Charlotte in our lifetimes.

What if we hire an offensive coach and that guy wants Ron to stick around as DC....?

(I personally would not be for it after our run D lately this year, but there’s no doubt he’ll be highly sought after this offseason as either HC or DC...)

If he wants it, cool. I still think it's a sh-tty idea.

I think you have a strong point. After reading your post I stopped to think about it and realized when I think about players being placed in the Ring of Honor, I think character should be a factor. Not entirely sure why I didn't also mentally think this way about coaches too. Still not completely sure I'd want those two coaches in, but you've made me think about it a bit more.

    • Yes, he's a tier above them, but you also touched on the money side of it.  With T-Mac locked in as our #1 on a rookie contract for a few more years, I'd much rather use that money that would be needed for DJ on our defense and develop Coker into our #2.   Especially given his contract situation as an UDFA, as his contract is up at the end of this year but we can keep him around for a 3rd team controlled year on the real cheap.  Which means we probably could get him to sign a very reasonable extension this offseason to give him a little more money while giving us a bargain contract for what he provides. DJ's contract is north of $20 million for the next 5 years, why pay that for your #2 WR with the needs we have on defense and you have guys like Coker, XL, and Horn on rookie contracts who very well could combine to be a serviceable 2-4 WRs behind a stud in T-mac? I love DJ and he'd be a great fit on this team as our #2, but the money side of it just makes absolutely zero sense, that's all it comes down to for me on this one. And no, I don't see the Bears wanting XL back in that trade, because they drafted Burden, who is essentially a better version of what XL provides, a player you want to get the ball into their hands and let them go to work.
    • I didnt see that many bad calls in the panthers cowboys game, but the chiefs especially in the playoffs were getting every single call they could get then the refs when it didnt matter would throw a call towards the other teams.  That I believe was the taylor swift effect.   But its crazy just thinking about how easy it is to change a game.  You dont need but a single ref to make a few close calls go towards one team over the other and in the nfl that is the game.
    • I don't think it's unrealistically blaming Bryce Young......to say has been a reason, sometimes a big one, in why our pass offense overall has been extremely week over the past 3 collective seasons.  I think that bothering anyone, is just being overly invested in some Bryce Young argument.  It's just a reality.
