The Shaq contract pretty much confirms Tepper is JR 2.0

Name one, just one team who has had success by deploying half measures.. You know what I’m talking about, the same crap we have been doing the last decade. HALF MEASURES. Keep the HC, fire the GM (Hurney) or fire the GM but keep the HC (Gettleman) HALF MEASURE. For the love of god can we just never have true fresh start. Why is it so hard to fire Hurney? Make no mistake, The new Shaq contract was Hurney way of saying he is safe and not going anywhere for the forseeable future. Why can’t we be the Bills? They brought in new HC/new GM at the same time and it’s worked wonders. But alas, we are the team of mediocrity and half measures.

I don't want to say it's so but it's looking that way. Keeping Hurney is like keep JR.

Half measures NEVER work in football nor in life for that matter. I’ve said this once and I’ll say it again, I do not care one bit Hurney can draft in the first round because he is so horrible in every other facet of the job that it far outweighs all the good he does in the first round anyway. So pretty much you keep a GM who will forever draft pro bowlers once a year but keep having losing records.

My question: Why are we working contracts without knowing what we'll be deploying in 2020?

Because it’s what incompetent owners and football teams do. I would not be the least bit surprised if Fewell is our new DC and Shula our new OC. Firing Rivera was just a publicity stunt, this team will look exactly the same next year as Tepper hires a yes man HC, mark my words

Maybe Hurney is staying until the Steelers gm’s contract is up after the draft. Maybe Shaq is a 25 year old LB who fits in both a 3-4 and 4-3 that never has to leave the field, and is someone we want to build around.

Shaq is a role player, a dispensable one, he’s not a CMC or Luke Kuechly that you sign long term to a big contract. Can be easily replaced in the off season by a cheap FA 0n a one year deal. Should have let him walk. He’s good but not that good, he’s more like a AJ Klein type player.. Good but easily replaceable

Some of y’all may want to get comfy with the probability that Luke ain’t gonna be here after two years. And Shaq is the future and whoever else we draft here in the next couple of years to replace Luke.

I don’t feel like this was just a straight up Hurney move. Tepper obviously signed off on it and you have to know they have started discussions about who the young core is going to be going forward.

    • This is from 5 months ago. It was one or the other. Trade for one or draft one. We apparently called the Jets about Wilson. We also talked to the Seahawks about Metcalf. Drafting our own guy was the best course of action given the required investment. Regardless now is the time for Bryce Young to produce. We are fourth amongst all teams in cap spending on the OL. Back to back first round picks at WR and multiple young TE draft picks now. Very solid and respectable backfield. New pieces across the defense. The time is now.
    • That was just the worst time to have their worst game of the season. One key deal was the broncos guess the Panthers would NOT change any plays or flow to the game. Another key point overlook that bronco defense was truly one of the best in the NFL history. It was the best defense the Panthers faced that year, by far. They were not ready for it, but broncos were ready for the Panthers. Mix in that bad luck, poor refs showcase, and this is the golden boys last game........ Panthers needed to win by 20 and the broncos defense was not going to allow that.  Panthers were the faviotes and I believe they also thought that it was going to easier than them destorying NFC playoff teams as they marched to the SB. I've heard darin Gantt say the play calls were to give remmers help, but for some reason the team never did it. During the year they never had that problem, so maybe never practiced giving help via TE/RB, or WR chip. Cam was superman that year, no need for any adjustments...... Until you meet a legendary defense with studs at all levels, Think about it, Peyton was throwing wingless dunks for the whole season, the defense had to carry his corpse to the SB. That's how good they were, no many defense are able to get to the playoffs and win a SB without decent QB play. If you recall the beginning of that denfese took Tim Teblows and his non-throwing arse to the playoffs couple years before. That's insane the level of defense needed to overcome.
    • Who cares if he paid for such small benefits out of his own pocket? The NCAA is a joke. They need to be offering such anyway, especially for Uber rides (which actually seems like a good idea).
