Fewell, Turner, Washington, Blackburn

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

These guys and the rest now have a four game audition to try and prove that they should stick with the team.

Yet even if they ace it, the next head coach might have his own guys in mind and zero interest in holdovers.

I wonder, if they were to play better down the stretch, would that say something about Ron Rivera or would it just be guys playing for their jobs? And if they're capable of playing better to save their jobs, why didn't they do it before?

Who, at this point, do we feel is worth holding over on the staff (and who should be gone as soon as possible)?

Fewell did good work with the secondary so if he's willing to step back down into that role, I would keep him there. Washington is gone for sure. Depending on how Fewell does, maybe you consider him stepping in as defensive coordinator for Washington.

Scott Turner should stay as qb coach and depending on whether he completely turns around the offense in the next 4 weeks, would consider him for offensive coordinator as Norv is likely on the outs. Blackburn should definitely stay. He's been a bright spot. You can't pin Slye getting the yips on him.

Obviously a new coach is likely to want to bring in his own people so this isn't necessarily who I think will stay as much as who I would personally keep.

Sad thing to consider, but the team could conceivably look worse down this four-game stretch.

And if that happens, what are you gonna do? Fire the interim?

Firing freshly appointed interim HC for 4 games before our seasons end wouldn't make any sense. Or maybe you meant after the season ?

how much different would it honestly look if we had no coach?

Washington and Turner should be gone for sure, Perry has a history of doing good work with the secondary so I would keep him in that position. Our ST showed flashes of being good, maybe keep Chase around and see if they improve.

Scott Turner, not Norv.

You guys deserve to be Tampon Bay. All that tear everything up was a Tampa mantra.

Do you know what misery is yet? You will soon find out.

Remember everybody thought JR was a con man. Two steps forward one step back?

Tepper comes out and says he doesn't want mediocrity yet he comes out later and says it may take five years to "build a winner"

So what is it?!? Mediocrity not accepted but total suck is? The fans aren't going to pay for your sucker.

I understand trying to shape things in your own image after you buy it but you didn't buy a disaster of a team just one that needed more support to get over the hump.

That's a really good question.

Richardson was tied to him through his dad. Whether or not temper feels the same way? No idea.

Tepper seems to have embraced the legacy of Sam. My guess is that Sam III will have a job.  Interesting that they put him upstairs this year trying to help Rivera with game management.  He likely is on board with the analytics that Tepper values.

I would agree with that.

The question I have is whether he would mandate it to whomever he hires as head coach.

    • he used to have nothing good to say about them. put him on the payroll...problem solved.
    • I am also intrigued by Mohammad. Could be another story. Seems like he has the talent but seems to have had some issues with coaching schemes/changes,  some attitude and work ethic issues? Hopefully his being home can get him focused. Here is what I read ( all second hand to me ) :    1- He has all the skills but was nonexistent under two different coaching staffs. He butted heads and was benched under Jimbo (for wearing sleeves under his uniform after the coaching staff told him not to 🙄). Then under the new staff, he rarely saw the field – he had just 55 yards last season. When he saw the field, he either made the most impressive play of the game or would get an unsportsmanlike penalty. Just a bizarre case because he has the talent.     2 -Aggie here to provide some insight. As the other poster mentioned, Moose had a weird time at A&M and it didn't help that Jimbo's offense was painful and wide receivers never seemed to excel. His third year was promising but he was also competing with Evan Stewart, Noah Thomas, and Chase Lane who I'm pretty sure were all 5*s. Also Ainais Smith and Devon achane ran majority of the offense. That said, going into his last year with Jimbo, a couple guys like Lane and Achane left, and most Ags thought this would be the year Moose really steps up. Unfortunately as the other poster mentions, he disappeared into misconduct and coaching change.
    • I'm more impressed with the UDFA that the guys they have drafted in the first the last 2 years. A whole lot of prove it is still needed before any improvement should be talked about seriously.
