Sounds like he'd have to beat nine other guys to the punch.

Portis is technically the biggest name involved. I've heard of some of the others, though not all.

Portis and Horn had to make some money, we have all seen "Broke" before, and I get it, but I wonder just how little you have to trust someone outside "your circle" when it comes to money with these guys?  The stories are out there, they've been told over and over again, yet we continue to see these guys broke at very early ages.

I totally understand the 5th rounder who bounces around the league for 3 seasons and is cut....totally get that.  But these all stars and long term players...it's almost mind blowing.

Remember when Horn was said to be fooling around with Willie Roaf's wife?

Those are not actions that I'd attribute to a guy with an abundance of brains.

Ha, I had forgotten about that.  Jesus what a bad judgement call.

Were I the GM of a team, I would go out of my way to have financial planners on staff to help these guys from day 1.  These guys would get NOTHING from the players in the way of commissions or kickbacks, only a team salary.

Now, I have heard from a GM before that offered something like this, but almost every player didn't use them in any aspect at all.  Just really hard to understand.

Even the lowest paid players in this league are compensated to a level well above that of most Americans.

A little sound financial planning (especially so early in life) and these guys should be relatively well off in retirement.

Bottom line: "It is not how much you make, it is how much you spend."

They should just take a small portion of ad and merch revenue. They make Billions off of players. Also why healthcare should be tax exempt for everyone anyway. Poor get taken care of as well as everyone else.

I thought it would serve to fold. The interest alone on that amount of money after a couple of years would be enough to sustain the health care for them.  also as previously noted with so many guys not handling their finances well it would give them a small nest egg at the end that may otherwise have already been blown

Healthcare I agree with but the nest egg isn't going to help much. People are either good with money or not. With the avg life span in the league being 3 years that's not much money to go around.
