The Patriot Way or The Steeler Way?

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

NFL insiders have posted stories about David Tepper and the Panthers being interested in executives from both the Patriots and the Steelers.

So which do they really want?

In my opinion, probably both. You're not guaranteed to be able to get either, so why not hedge your bets and keep your options open?

(optionality; that's a David Tepper thing, right?)

But if the choice were up to you, who would you want them to go after?

I want Nick Caserio over Kevin Colbert. I just don’t want McDaniels. Colbert is old and has been doing the GM job for quite some times. We might as well just keep Hurney if we’re wanting Colbert. I want a young guy who is willing to change and adapt to today’s NFL. It’s Nick Caserio #1 followed by Omar Khan. No one else matters after that. Anyone else would just be a bust for me. The only other guy I would’ve wanted is Joe Douglas but he’s with the Jets now.

Also for the sake of argument regarding poaching FO/coaching from either of these teams, the Pats’ castoffs track records are absolutely terrible. Wouldn’t touch them with a ten foot pole if I was making the decisions. Belichick, while a scumbag cheater, is the greatest football mind out there. He’s the backbone behind their success. Doesn’t hurt having a solid above average QB who fits the system there healthy for 20 years too, but Belichick is their success. No one else can or will replicate that elsewhere.

If I could build a perfect scenario, I would have to take my time and really savor the flavor of firing Hurney....But that's another story all together.

I would take the business and contract side of the Pats and marry that to the stable culture with identity and clear vision of the Steelers.  If you pull off that miracle you'll probably put a few runs together with a decent shot at a trophy.

Not really interested in poaching from New England. Brian Daboll, Eric Mangini, Romeo Crennel, Matt Patricia, and Josh McDaniels all flopped. Bill O'Brien is doing okay. If we aren't getting Bill Belichick it doesn't really matter.

Getting Kevin Colbert to leave Pittsburgh is a pipe dream. There's just no way that happens unless we offer him an obscene amount of money. Maybe we could get someone who works underneath him like Brandon Hunt, who was apparently in love with Antonio Brown and was largely responsible for him being drafted. He also pushed for the Minkah trade this year. Not bad imo.
