"I think this is a overall failure as a organization right now"

He's been lousy this year, and I haven't been the least bit subtle about saying so. No hate involved. None needed.

Oh for the love of god, you think I mean personal hate?  Not hate like you wanna put hands on him, sports hate.  Like UNC/Duke sports hate.  The game aint serious enough for all that.  But I will smack Marty if I get a chance.

I reserve my "sports hate" for people who do egregious things like playing dirty or trying to injure other players.

Donte doesn't do any of that. His major malfunctions are that he's not very good and he blames other people for his mistakes instead of taking responsibility for them.

Olson at least included himself in the list of people that failed.

I think we're getting into semantics here.  Also, Greg is a seasoned vet, husband and father.  I dont think Donte is any of those things?  Donte was on track until scheme change.  I've seen nothing out of him I haven't seen a thousand times from a thousand players.  Young and excitable.  Who would like being blamed for this train wreck D?  I'd be pissed off too.

I couldn't tell you jack about Donte's personal life. I don't follow that sort of thing.

I would add though that it's not true that he only started falling off this year. He was starting to tail off at the end of last season as well.

This season, same as the last one, he started off good but finished poorly. The difference was that the good part was shorter and the poor part was longer.

I'll grant that he may be right about the scheme and the coaches, but he's not a good enough player to make that call out.

Ok, that's a matter of opinion.  1 that I dont necessarily argue other than he spoke out of turn while emotional.  When we only get clips and blurbs its hard not to make snap judgements.  Dont you see a correlation between Donte's and the team?  Start strong, fade down the stretch?  Thats 2 years in a row now.  All Im saying is dont wright the kid off just yet.  A better coach may be all that's needed for the young man.

I'm not writing him off

That said, I wouldn't necessarily guarantee that he's still with the team next year, depending on what they think of him.

He may have pissed off people.  I just haven't seen enough to justify his release on a rookie deal.  That seems like a bad FO move.  So you may be right?

More from Olsen...

"In 13 years, I’ve never been a part of what these last weeks have been like, and it’s just sh-tty. We took a lot of pride in building this thing the right way, a lot of guys are still trying to finish this chapter out and we’ve failed collectively. It’s a tough pill to swallow.”

Goes back to never being on the bad end of transition. He was traded here on the up swing.

    • How about if you don't like my choice of content, then don't click on the thread? We're discussing the NFL, not Pee-wee football. Until we start having "great" games on a continuous basis, I'm going to continue to talk all facets of the team. Moreover, I haven't seen X have a "great" game yet. Just like I supported patience last season, I have become critical this season. If it hurts your feelings, it just hurts your feelings. I've been on this board longer than most of you, and I've been a fan of the Panthers since before they stepped on the field, so don't tell me how to fan.
    • Speaking generally to this whole thing— I would say taking a play out of structure too soon isn’t always the riskier option with a higher reward. You’re crashing the call and going out of structure when maybe you didn’t need to. Attempting a premature escape does not inherently have a high reward. But yeah, it’s risky ball. Especially when your not outpacing IDLs. Sometimes the higher risk/reward option is staying in a crowded pocket, not letting it break down, stepping up and making the big time throw. Now, if we’re saying it’s impossible to judge, and there’s so many factors, it’s a complicated position to evaluate, sure but the saying something with so much certainty that his biggest weakness is that he’s too aggressive — I don’t, I just don’t see that. Like at all.  And nothing has really convinced me otherwise. You can’t just keep going on about how it’s so intricate and difficult to understand but be so certain about this one thing. And all that aside, pocket work, mechanics and footwork have been the flashing red sirens since day 1 more than physical traits (we drafted him knowing he was a historic outlier) - do we just not want to acknowledge it? It’s even been communicated straight from the horses mouth…the coaches and team saying what he needs to work on the most. I appreciate the perspective, but nothing here has convinced me Bryce is somehow this aggressive type. Still open, but I don’t see it
    • I think Egbuka is a very polished guy, for sure. TMac has some refinement that needs to happen. His ceiling is probably higher than Egbuka's but for that to matter you have to eventually reach it. I definitely don't have buyers remorse on TMac. Great pick.
