Patience is a virtue. Sometimes it takes a while for players to develop. Honestly, when given a chance, he's made some plays, and his improvement is kind of palpable. He is definitely rotation material.

Even though we didn't need him.when we drafted him, we might as well keep him if the price is right.

I don't know WTF was wrong with him on that play.

We have been quick to cut players before htat have had long careers.  Evan Mathis comes to mind.  I think Terrell McClain is still in the league.

That wasn't a shot specifically at Vern, but that's a part of the human condition to get complacent and contract year play is a real thing. Doug Martin recently comes to mind.

That said when you only have 1 out of 4 really strong season, you still don't want to buy high.

You mean like the Redskins and Josh Norman? (Dodged that bullet)

Personally, I have seen enough to move on, but the stats surprised me--if stats are used in contract negotiations, then he could get more than you think---a desperate team with some cap room and a bad GM (see Redskins, Washington) might overpay--

You can say stuff like, "Look at all 4 years..." but if a player is putting it together in year four,  are you happy being the farm team (see Mathis, Evan) for a rival team?  So much has to do with system.  Butler is very versatile and in a new system with a new coach that stays on his ass, he could be a steal.

Because that one time this was true, it is safe to say that is always the case.

Well, we shouldn’t cut anyone because Evan Mathis started using, I mean playing well after 4 teams and 8 years in the NFL?  So what’s the difference?

Really?  It was an example. So you are saying that all players who have a good season in year 4 are only performing because they are in contract years so they should be cut?  See--your weak logic goes both ways.

How was it different than him pulling the exception, which you dismiss, while you use an example(exception as well) twice? How can you do it but no one else.

If I said just because it happened to Mathis, that makes it always true? In the same sarcastic way.How would it be different from your statement about his post.

The only logic is what you posted. Which makes no sense or is hypocritical. You choose?

And I don’t care about every other player ever cut or signed or whatever..I don’t need to search for random examples to further my stance. I have repeatedly made many comments about HIS play. Not random guys who got cut over a decade ago. Are you seriously trying to say it should be a factor in any decision? Ever! Wow!

Yes--you had your logic reversed with an equally ridiculous assumption and you are attacking it.  How marvelous.

    • PFF feeds the beast.  So it’s largely popular for that IMO and is embraced by the NFL machine because it helps feed the beast.  Thats why you see the cute stats pop on the Monday Night football screen lol.  Hot takes? Fantasy football? Yeah, it’s good for the NFL machine for lots of reason.  I do think the league embraces them.  Not because they are actually good at doing what they claim. actual analytics folks are critical of PFF.  Because it’s not analytics.  It’s subjective goobly goo ratings by dudes that aren’t really qualified nor even have the info to do real grading.  you got legit NFL players who say they have literally put PFF grades by the coaches grades and they are worlds apart.  Players have laughed at them pretending they can grade certain plays without the underlining info.  NFL coaches have called out there bologna at pressers.   could it be a quick tool to find out some info that has nothing to with their subjective grades? Sure.  There is a lot of data on 32 teams for cheap. But I do not buy the narrative 32 NFL teams think their grades are worth a poo or remotely accurate or meaningful.
    • Bills D looks like ass
    • I think that win vs Dallas gave them a big boost of confidence.  Thats a team that blew us out the past 2 seasons. Even when Bryce was playing okay late last season they still beat us pretty bad.  Lets see if we slaughter the Jets or go back to playing sloppy uninspired football and go from there.
