Rappaport: Marty Hurney heavily involved in HC search!!!

Recommended Posts

This disastrous scoop was posted by @Mr. Scot in a McCarthy thread

Quote

The Panthers are off and running on their search, and they've interviewed former Packers coach Mike McCarthy not once, but two times. From what it sounds like, he did very well. The team also intends to interview Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and Baylor coach Matt Rhule, while Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy should also get a look among others. Worth noting: GM Marty Hurney is heavily involved in the interview process, indicating he's safe, though his title potentially could change with a new personnel hire.

How on earth do we get rid of him for good, bros? He's awful

Basically, the guy who brought us John Fox and Ron Rivera has a say in who our next head coach is. And whatever coach gets picked is supposed to have a say in who gets the new front office position.

Ugh :poison:

We were hoping for the next Art Rooney but instead we might have gotten the next Jim Haslam

My optimism for our future just took a serious nosedive.

I keep preaching to everyone that they are in denial about Tepper and Hurney

Everyone is going through mental gymnastics daydreaming about future GM hires, and ignoring the words that actually came out of Teppers mouth about how he believes Hurney is the best evaluator of talent.

The sooner you come to grips with the fact Tepper thinks Hurney is a good GM and has no plans to fire him, the better for your mental health

    • Bryce and Dave will determine how many games this team wins next year. It’s not on the WRs. The RBs. LBs. This is about 2 things: 1. Can Bryce continue to come up big in the few key downs that decide most games?  2. Can Canales evolve his play calling to counter punch like the big boys do. Half time adjustments.  teams that score 30+ points on the regular win more games than not. That’s on Bryce and Dave. The offense is top 10 at every position group, save for TE and QB. A baller TE is gravy but not crucial when the receivers are dudes.  The defense is the defense. It’ll be better this season, hopefully by a large margin, but Dave/Bryce is really where it’s at.
    • Normally I'd wholeheartedly agree with this. But I feel like teams figured out this offense after the Raiders game. Bryce was so inept the first 2 games that we couldn't really even run the offense. Dalton's first game showed what we had. But after that game, coverages got a lot tighter and windows were smaller. When Bryce came back in, his ability to extend plays made a big difference. It's really difficult to stop a QB that can beat/escape 1on1 tacklers. It puts a lot of pressure on the defense when you blitz. And he was completing throws in tight coverage with anticipation. Point being Bryce wasn't throwing to wide open receivers that were schemed open by the offense. Occasionally yes. But not often.
    • With the additions we've made to our roster combined with the state of the division and the conference as a whole there is no excuse for this team not to make a legitimate push for 8-9 wins. Anything less is honestly inexcusable. There will be no more free passes for being a doormat in this iteration of the league where even mediocre teams are competing for playoff spots.
