Carolina Panthers ask permission to interview Chiefs offensive coordinator

The Panthers are seeking to interview the Chiefs offensive coordinator.

Would be very happy with this hire. Will be interesting to see if the chiefs allow it.

Bieniemy, Jr. (born August 15, 1969) is an American football coach and former professional player who is the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL). Bieniemy is a former running back who played in the NFL for nine seasons. He played college football for the Colorado Buffaloes and was recognized as a consensus All-American. He was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the second round of the 1991 NFL Draft.[1] Bieniemy served as the offensive coordinator at Colorado before becoming the running backs coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.

They can’t but you still need to put in the request as a formality

That sounds right. I guess I'm thinking of how many coaches decide not to because it's a distraction.

We never denied teams asking to interview our coordinators when in the playoffs.  Would hope they don't hold him back like that.

I think he meant calling plays as OC for the Chiefs

Reid doesn't generally block his guys from head coaching opportunities.

As to him calling plays though, my understanding is he doesn't. Reid does that.
