Keep Joey Slye?

Keep Gano and Slye till camp. If Gano is healthy, you keep him. Still one of the best %'s for a kicker in the league.

He had a couple really shaky games in the middle of the year but otherwise has done admirably well and didn't miss a single kick in December. He's been impressive from 50+. I would definitely keep him over Gano but am not opposed to having him compete in training camp with Fry. We don't seem to be ready for contention next year so I'd be inclined to give him another season to determine whether he's the long term answer.

Just let 2 or 3 kickers battle it out in camp and go from there. We have much bigger problems.

This this this.  No reason to not give Slye another shot.  He's got a helluva leg.  Had some 35-44 yarder jitters midseason but nothing awful IMO.  For a rookie season, he was fine.

Cheaper in the long term.  In the short term, not so much because we would have to absorb Gano's 2020 3 million cap hit and still pay Slye.  So the front office would need to decide if they believe Slye is the long term successor.

You def bring him back.  The league is starved for kickers.  We let one get away, cant do it again.  Cut Gano, bring back Slye, load up with camp legs and challenge Joey to make the team.  If he does, great, if not, then we hopefully found our next guy.

50+ kicks are not worth more points.  I think a kicker who consistently makes 40-45 yard kicks is a better option.  Then a coach will be confident at the end of a game.

Just to make it clear, I want better than both Gano and Sly.  To me they both scream mediocrity.

With CMC, yes we should be able to get there.  It is also extra points.  Every point is going to matter for the next several years.

Part of this is I am starting to get the feeling there is a Jerry Jones 2.0 in the owners box.

The problem is that Gano will take up to much money next year whether we keep him or not.  The best option might be to keep Gano one more year, then replace him after the 2020 season so that the cap hit is not as bad.

Of course, that assumes we can find a decent replacement after next season.

What about trading Gano instead of cutting him ? I don't know much about the contracts, but wouldn't the other team also pick up his contract ?
