Was I just watching Kevin Stefanski or Mike Shula?

Let me explain what you saw:

You saw an inferior offense go into a hostile environment where there were favored to lose by more than a TD and extra point.

You saw an inferior QB out-battle a hall of fame QB in the playoffs.

To keep Brees off the field Stef needed to control the game.

It was a masterful, carefully-designed, disciplined game plan.

What were you expecting to see?  Step throwing inferior weaponry at one of the best defenses in the NFL, allowing them to give the ball to Brees again and again until he whipped their arses?

THAT is what Shula would have done--but Stef did not take the bait.

1. I'd question inferior weaponry. Cooks, Diggs, Rudolph, Thielen, Rudolph are pretty good weapons. Kamara and Murray better than Cooks and Mattison, but Diggs and Thielen are superior to Thomas and whoever is #2 for the Saints. Rudolph and Jared Cook are a wash.

2. Stefanski's play calling on the final drive of the fourth quarter was questionable and did give the ball back to Brees with a chance to win the game. We've seen that scenario play out too many times before. The Vikings did manage to hold them to three, to their credit. Compare it to what Schottenheimer did in a similar situation against Philly. He sealed the game with a first down. Stefanski didn't even try for one. He just wanted to run clock.
