NY Giants Owner Confirms They Thought Rhule Contract Was Too Steep

It’s pretty crazy we went from an owner that let John Fox play out a lame duck year because he didn’t wanna pay two coaches to a guy who is the absolute richest owner in the league and drops 70 million like it’s nothing. Regardless of how anything turns out you can’t say the dude won’t go all in to try to make the Panthers great.

I think people should recognize that we weren’t just bidding against other NFL teams but also Baylor University.  I believe he was making in the  6 million range(without state taxes) and the wealthy alumni were willing to match Tepper’s offer.  It would have been much easier to have stayed but Rhule wanted the challenge of the NFL.  However, only with the security of a long term, big money deal.  He had the leverage and he used it.

Because history has shown that Tepper has a much better track record as a decision maker than Haslam, across multiple businesses. Business is business, no matter what you're selling. Tepper is great at putting teams together; this is just the first time it's an actual sports team. Again, it's all relative. Tepper has more wealth than the entire Haslam family. And he's not throwing it; he's making a calculated risk, with his own money. I'll be bummed if it doesn't pan out though, same as you.

I think it’s great. You can’t place enough importance on what a head coach does for your franchise yet most of them are paid less than a good place kicker .  Tepper just blew that up .

Why do you care about others perceptions about the amount of money we gave a coach? It literally has no affect on anything football related.

David Tepper has $12 billion. That's 24 times as much as John Mara. To put it another way: $60,000 a year is a common salary in Charlotte right? 24 x 60,000 is $1,440,000. Tepper has so much money he even makes other NFL owners look like peasants.

$500. Million in liquid assets maybe, but the Giants are probably worth a couple billions.

If we spend a boatload of money on a poor choice, it's a good sign that the people in charge don't know what they're doing.

dude I was just thinking about this during the Wednesday press conference.  It was so incredibly different from good ole pie-charts.

I remember when Richardson called me (and many other fans) in 2010 'cause I wrote an angry letter about how poo the Panthers were, and his argument was "I'm still paying that darn thar John Fox, so I expected him to coach!" ... then Tepper fires RR mid season... has this insane media event/press confernece... comes on stage, laughs about his GM stuffing his face, proudly declares he spent a poo ton of money, and whether I like Rhule or not I am just glad it is a new era for the Panthers for sure.

of course then he grabbed his wife's ass which... weird, but whatever.

I don't care how much he spends on a coach as long as coaching salaries don't count against the Salary cap.
