Sean Padden joined the Baylor football program in December 2016. He serves on head coach Matt Rhule’s staff as associate athletics director for football operations.

Prior to joining the Baylor staff, Padden spent 2015-16 at Temple as the Associate AD/chief of staff for director of athletics Pat Kraft and served as sport administrator for football after two seasons with the director of operations title.

Padden returned to collegiate football in 2013 after an eight-year stint in the corporate world. Prior to that he volunteered as the defensive line coach at Monsignor Bonner High School in Drexel Hill, Pa. during the 2012 season. He was a volunteer coach for the West Philly Tarheels youth football team from 2008-10.

Padden served as the defensive line coach at Fordham University during the 2002-2003 seasons, including a Patriot League championship in 2002. Prior to Fordham, Padden spent one season  on the Columbia staff in 2001 as the outside linebackers coach.

His coaching career began at Albright College, where Padden coached the defensive line for two seasons from 1997-98, working with Rhule who coached the linebackers in 1998. Padden moved to the University of Albany for two seasons, one as the defensive tackles coach and one as wide receivers coach.

A three-year letterman for Catholic University, Padden won the scout team player of the year award as a junior in 1995. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1997 and served as a student assistant for the Cardinals in 1996.

A Norristown, Pa., native, Padden earned a master’s degree in higher education administration from Albany in 2005.

He and Rhule go way back.

He's got some experience as a defensive line coach though from his history, he could just as easily be a "program" guy.

Could be getting an interesting role but I don't know if it will be the Assistant GM/VP of Ops.

That's the position I'm most interested to see who emerges.

If I had to guess I’d bet it would be director of football operations(which doesn’t have jack poo to do with the roster decisions unfortunately.)

Surely not. I want someone with a very legit NFL scouting background for that role.

I could see him as some kind of high level assistant to Rhule.

Looking at his resume', an actual front office role would make me cringe a little.

Same and you have to think that's what they're looking for; especially if it's to supplant Hurney at the right time in Tepper's mind.

Ryan Cowden would be perfect IMO but it would be a pretty parallel move for him (unless we assure him Hurney is getting phased out)

Probably some sort of chief of staff role. Not sure exactly what that would entail but I'm sure there's plenty of administrative type bullshit head coaches have to deal with as managers of their staff and I wouldn't blame Rhule at all for passing the buck in that crap.

That was my thinking.

If it were something bigger than that it'd raise an eyebrow, but some kind of staff role helping Rhule build his "program" would be reasonable.
