Which players are thought to be extension targets? Will that show us where staff priorities are? — Chris H.

Off the top, I think we will see deals get done for James Bradberry, Ross Cockrell, Tre Boston and Christian McCaffrey this spring.

Handing out a potentially massive salary cap crippling extension at a luxury position like running back sounds like the opposite of a rebuild. If we are being truthful it sounds more like a Jerry Richardson type of move so many have complained about over the years. Especially when you look around the league to see the teams that have won in the postseason are using 2 or 3 back sets, none of which are amongst the top paid at their position. The only team winning with one RB was the Titans, and they got eliminated fairly quickly when they finally ran into a more well rounded team in the Chiefs. Not to mention Henry will be hitting free agency and commanding a nice fat contract.

Teams are building for the future differently now.

Christian McCaffrey just had a 1,000 yard seasons at two positions. He made all pro at two positions. He's a completely different player than Henry. You build for the future with a guy that can have 100 yards rushing one game and 100 yards receiving in another. I hope Hurney has nothing to do with his contract numbers, and our hiring of that Steelers 'capologist' is a good sign he won't. Still, you've got to keep a guy like CMC.

Writing has been on the wall for the CMC extension, like the Olsen move, and the eventual Cam move.  At least we'll have enough cap room where CMCs deal wont ever be that crippling, we can avoid the coming holdout, and get clear from him by like age 27 if he does break down.  Not incredibly smart but whatever.

Hurney about to handle a top RB contract

Handle a solid but not elite defensive players contract (remember Charles Johnson)

Handle a avg Safties contract (remember Charles Godfrey top safety level contract)

This is brewing up to be another 2010 all over again.

Then if we get the #1 pick and draft Trevor next year.  We'll get to hear all the Hurney Defenders again like last time "but he Drafted our Franchise player Trevor Lawerence"

Let's not forget, Hurney signed 2 RBs to megadeals at the same time.  Both were overpaid.

However, you have to consider CMC a double threat--so he deserves a big deal as he enters his prime.
Bradberry getting top 5 money?  We do not even know how he will fit into the system.  Boston?  He may be a hard signing, but he has been an average to above average (at times) S.

Cockrell?  Not sold.

Can anyone explain the Mario Addison situation? Is he gone?  I think he is 32 or 33.

The 2019 Carolina Panthers sucked because they couldn’t stop the run. They couldn’t stop the run because they couldn’t fit. They couldn’t fit because they changed their scheme. They changed their scheme because they felt like changing their scheme.

There were other issues, but that was the fatal flaw, IMO. They won games against two of the AFC semi-finalists with Kyle Allen at quarterback. McCaffrey’s contributions only helped matters.
