Another year, another draft thread.

As long as Simmons and at least one OL gets selected before us, I will be fine with whomever we get.  In all the simulations I have ran, the only thing that makes me anxious is when Simmons falls and no OL gets selected in the top 6 picks.  I really doubt Simmons falls, but could Wirfs, Wills and Thomas all fall to #7?  It's a very real possibility and we will certainly take one of them, but I would rather take one of the other guys that got selected in front of us if given the chance.

I think this is my favorite mock I've had up until now, covers all the basics, some late round guys to develop, and some possible day one starters all the way into the fifth round. Most likely Delpit won't really last that long, but anything is possible, and this is still pre-combine, so yeah, maybe?

So do we really move up each round like Tankathon says in the draft order each round? Like 6 pick in the third, 5th in the fourth?

we tied with the Dolphins and the Chargers as far as worst record, but we lost the tie breaker to both, so each round rotates that way.  We got last among the 3 in the first at 7, in the second we move up to the sixth pick and up to the fifth pick in the 3rd.  Then the rotation begins again, picking 7th in the 4th, etc.

The bad part of trading with the Chargers:
They pick right before us.  If we are NOT drafting a QB, they might draft a player we covet.  Secondly, the pick(s) they surrender for Cam could be used to move into the #4 spot to grab the young QB they want.

The team nobody is talking about is INDY.  Here is why they make more sense:  For them to move up to get a legit QB in 2020, they have to move up 10 places or so.  That would cost the Colts a second and a third.  If they trade for Cam (third rounder), they can sit at 14--if Love falls, they can draft him. If he does not, they can draft a need (Left Tackle) and then grab a QB to develop in round 2 (Fromm, Eason, Hurts, maybe?).  The cost for having Cam, a LT, and a young QB?  The same as moving up in the draft for Herbert or Tua.

Trading for Cam makes sense for the Colts.

Panthers need to call the Colts and ask them for pick 13 for Cam. They are a win now team who desperately needs a QB. Haven't even thought of them, but makes a lot of sense. I would love to get Derrick Brown and Becton or Thomas.

I've done a mock trading with the Colts, not for Cam, but for Herbert.  They have two 2nd round pick and we get the lesser of the two along with some other small tweaks.  Basically we would get another 2nd rounder.

i know nothing about dugger. also, im personally not a fan of raekwon davis. he really strieks me as the guy some team will reach on because of his potential, but then wont ever live up to it. he recorded 0.5 of a sack this year compared to 8 his freshman year, has been declining ever since. i am a fan of shaq quarterman in the 6th though. here's my current mock for reference:

I'm only for taking an OT if both QBs, Okudah, Brown and Young are all gone.  Even then, I'm looking at trading down.  None of the OTs are elite, namely on the left side, and you have four all grouped together according to a lot of Big Boards.  I'm not sure you take a RT at #7...it seems a bit steep.

With Cam's health up in the air, Cam would have to pass the physical--but a second rounder is the very best we could get----my opinion.  A 2020 third is the market--especially if we are doing the calling.

I swear if I see another post with us getting a 1st round pick for Cam Newton im going to lose it. Wake up to reality people nobody is trading a 1st round pick for QB who hasn't been healthy in 2 years and coming off another major surgery.

Cam can't even pass a physical right now, yet people think a team is dumb enough to trade a 1st rounder for him.smh

I would just about guarantee that one tackle will go off the board before us.

Regardless of his past injury issues, if he clears a physical, we are going to get a lot more than a third for him.

    • No you dont.  He had all those records for years before his final season. Whether career or season he had them all years before his final season in which he played 6 games.
    • Williams covered for Moore by saying they were on the wrong page about Moores specific route. Williams could have easily covered for him by saying he messed up. Suggesting only 1 route was ever intended to be a viable target is absurd.
    • I am going to agree with Linville this time--I think we need to get a veteran edge (We have Jones II, Scourton, and Princely--2 developmental guys and a decent veteran).  We don't really think of Jones because he had a hamstring injury weeks 3 and 4 and a back that required surgery Week 6-17.  He still managed 10 pressures, and he will be 28.  Princely Umanmielen only played in approximately 18-20% of the snaps and he struggled at times.  Basically, he was a situational pass rusher.  He got 1.5 sacks and 10 pressures.  He should improve, but for now, he is what he is.  Scourton gives us hope.  For a rookie (and thanks to Jones II's injuries, he was given more PT), he had 8 sacks--and held the edge.  He played at a first-round draft pick level.  He has the potential to become "that guy" in 2026. We lose Wonnum, who played nearly 700 snaps and amassed 3 whole sacks.  For a person raised a Gamecock, I would not be upset if we purged our roster of all South Carolina alumni.   However, I see it this way:  Wonnum was decent holding the edge, something Patrick Jones II and Scourton have demonstrated at a high level.  He is a liability, if you ask me.    Jones had 7 sacks one season in Minnesota and is known for his inside rushing ability--not what you would call a speed rusher.  I think Princely was a bit disappointing, but he was a bit raw.  Out of college, they described him as being a bit predictable.  I see no reason he will not improve in 2026 and become a situational pass rusher.   Basically, with Scourton and Princely expected to continue to develop and Jones II returning from injury, I think we need another veteran (if we can get a good one) to give us balance and depth.  A third developmental player is not ideal.   Draft:  OT, LB, WR, OL depth, S. Free Agency:  Edge, possibly a WR;  re-sign Mays, Cuhran, BC (??), and Nijman.  Let walk:  Wonnum, Scott, Dowdle.  I see about $20m per year after signing the OL depth.  Spend it on a veteran edge.   Players like Reddick (Tampa), Bosa (Buffalo), Khalil Mack (LAC) could be available on a one or two year deal in the $15m range.  We could splurge here, but I think a veteran situational pass rusher (depending on Jones II's back) is all we need while our 2 young guns develop.
