Kyle Allen beat Teddy Bridgewater in week 17 of the 2018 season.

Oh right, I forgot how many players are better QBs than Tom Brady on the all time list because they beat him in a game. You know, the all time greats like Matt Moore, and Rex Grossman.

I think you're missing the point. Bridgewater being on the team or not makes zero difference. Hell, Watson or even Mahomes being on this team wouldn't make them win.

You're paying a guy 60 mill. I don't like him but he WILL make the team better along with CMC without ever coming close to contending.

Why not use a guy already on the roster who costs nothing and doesn't effect comp picks? If he suceeds you have an asset. If he doesn't you get a top QB in the draft. The point is there is no apparent strategy.

In truth whoever is QB1 is in for a tough year. I can't imagine why Bridgewater would dream of joining the Panthers right now.

Well, one 60 mil and a chance to start. Two, if he plays a couple of years here and does well, he'll be in good shape for another good deal when the panthers cut/trade him in 2 years. He'll be 29, with several years starting experience

As for the plan by the FO- draft a QB this year or next, let Bridgewater help him learn the offense.  If the panthers draft a QB at 7 this year, next two years, the total QB cap number would be about 20 mil this year and 30 mil next year.

Panthers can field a decent offensive team next year to give the fans something to cheer for, but the defense means they'll lose a lot of 35-31 games, so be positioned for a high draft pick next year.

I'm guessing they draft a QB with the 7th pick this year, use the rest of the draft on defense & Oline. Next year it's all defense, They'll try to get the new QB up to speed as quickly as possible, next year, they'll have a ton of cap room, hope the new QB starts w/ TB as a very expensive back up,  looks like they're trying for the build-around-a-stud-QB-on-his-rookie-deal shot at the super bowl.

And, they just don't think Cam can stay healthy. You wouldn't do any of this if you thought Cam would stay healthy for 3-4 years.

The year that Ryan was drafted by the Falcons, there were pundits seriously predicting a winless season, they won 9 games and made the playoffs. Turnarounds can happen quick.

Allen also beat Deshaun Watson. I'd still pick Deshaun every day and twice on Sunday.

Teddy is a significant upgrade over Allen. Even though getting rid of Cam is beyond stupid, we're in a much better spot with Teddy than we would be otherwise.

True.  But the team around our QB is significantly downgraded.

So we are in a better spot at QB vs Allen but overall in a worse spot IMO.

Yep.  Hopefully they've got some more surprises for us in FA...good ones this time...

    • Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.
    • I don't think Canales has any problem benching Bryce or moving on if Bryce doesn't come out playing like the end of last year.  It's year 3 no more excuses for Bryce
    • Yea Bryce was definitely a top half qb the second half of last season but I'm not sure Canales is 100% sold on him.  Like I've said in another post I think that's part of why we talked to so many South Carolina players in the draft process.  I think they are doing early due diligence on Sellers just in case.
