Isaiah Simmons

Shocker

Recommended Posts

Dabo...on evaluations that he is overrated...

Those people are crazy and they just want to get their name in the media or something," Swinney told The Roar's Out of Bounds show Tuesday. "I mean, c’mon. Let’s find those people five years from now. They’ll be long gone or will forget that quote. People say whatever they want to say right now because there’s no accountability. Isaiah Simmons is -- if you’ve got 53 people on your roster, he’s like having 56. And if there’s something bad with that, then they’re just crazy. There’s not a team out there that wouldn’t raise its hand when you say, ‘I can have 56 and everyone else have 53?’ Everybody would do that. And that’s what he brings.

"The guy is a great person first of all. A great teammate. He’s going to impact the community. He’s just wonderful to be around every single day. The guy played over 100 snaps at five different positions. What that says is he’s smart. He’s got football knowledge. Then his versatility, if it’s bad to blitz, tackle, coverage, catch and do all those things -- I guess he’s bad. But last time I checked, those are things that win games for you."

Just now, LinvilleGorge said:

Simmons is a tremendous prospect, but oh lord it's ole Dabo playing the "it's Clemson vs. the world because everyone else is always shitting on us" card again. It's gotten really old.

Not true...come on man...if you want another player fine but he isn’t saying this about everyone

Definitely not a Dabo fan per day but he doesn’t mention “Clemson” anything in this quote. He’s strictly talking about the player and the person.

Quote

“If an offensive coordinator or quarterback sees him as a single-high safety they’re going to throw at him every single time,” one personnel man said. “He’s a really good athlete for a linebacker but not a really good athlete for a safety. If they play him in the slot, they’ll throw at him because he can’t cover receivers.”

More quotes...

“More and more defenses around the league are saying, ‘Who are the guys you don’t necessarily have to put a label on that are dynamic football players?’ ” Las Vegas Raiders General Manager Mike Mayock said at the NFL combine. “Isaiah Simmons has played on the back end. He’s played at linebacker. He’s come off the edge. And really I think the only limitations on him are the ones a defensive coordinator puts on him.”

Simmons played the “Cheetah” position at Clemson, which meant he played everywhere and did everything. Clemson labeled him a linebacker, which is like calling an iPhone an alarm clock. Simmons lined up at safety, stacked behind defensive tackles, in the slot and on the line. He covered wide receivers, spied running quarterbacks, played the run, rushed the passer off the edge and confused play callers.

“I know years ago it wasn’t good to be a positionless guy,” Simmons said at the combine. “But now it’s become a benefit for me just because of all the versatility I’ll be able to do — play linebacker, play safety, whatever it is. I feel like it just helps me out.”

On a related note David Newton thinks we should take Simmons if available, but thinks Brown will be there. THEN says we pass up Brown and trade down for Kinlaw.

If you want to be right, do exactly the opposite of what Gomer Newton says.  I'm 100% content with Brown now.

So if Simmons is 3 players, if he's on the field there can only be 8 other Panthers out there with him?

Technically if Isaiah Simmons is 3 people and there are 53 total players on a roster then it would be a 55 man roster because 52 + Isaiah Simmons (3) = 55 not 56.

Quick maffs.

Dabo is a great college coach, but I think the man has a room temperature IQ.

    • If he was betting on other sports (hell, even other teams) I don't think he gets the blowback it got him. Making quite a large number of bets on team total unders and his individual prop unders is about as bad as it gets. Like honestly, the NFL/owners would rather you be a murderer or rapist than be betting unders on your own individual props... I still didn't see the talent to warrant a 1st round pick without the gambling scandal. With it, I think he might be a 4th or 5th rounder and would not be shocked if he is just straight blackballed by NFL organizations
    • I'm more curious if he can recover from his injury and still be a starting caliber olineman
    • Does this mean only topics from within the last year or any topics with posts from the last year? i.e. if there are any old threads we feel should be kept around for whatever reasons, would a bump of that thread before the update ensure it's kept around in full or do the posts from more than a year old still disappear?
