Think tonight is when the "boards" get shot all to hell.  For the most part last night was pretty chalky, and the media guys have been playing up the lack of Pro Days and groupthink that happens there making everyone's boards harder to predict this year.  Don't think much is going to be predicted correctly from here on out based on mock draft rankings.

It happens every year. Guys who have "4th round grades" end up going in the 2nd and vice versa.

Unfortunately for us, it's usually Hurney drafting those "4th round grade" guys and those grades turned out to be generous.

Mims tested great but,

that drop rate scares me

I think Pittman has one of the better drop rates in the class.

Thats weird because he put on a clinic during Senior Bowl week.  Maybe it was just that he and the QB at baylor didnt jive together.  Rhule knows

Assuming some of these drop to us:

  • Xavier McKinney (S)  most had first round grade on him
  •  Kristian Fulton (CB)  - next best player but also fills a need, also a frist round grade
  • Zack Baun (LB) - best linebacker left
  • Denzel Mims (WR) - has a chance to be an X receiver very quickly.  Too good to pass up

Fulton is who I was looking at but could we turn down Mckinney if he fell. We could bring Ross back for a year and use next year's 1 on a CB. I'm leaning toward BPA on defense for the whole draft.

With 5 picks before us, and 2 DEs that have first round potential, I image there will be trades in the early stages of day 2.

If you get DE out of your head (and I cannot--I am half inclined to move up for YGM myself, and I do not own a team), it is highly unlikely that a top CB is not sitting there.

Value?  Hurney don't need no stinking value.  He has his gut.

Yes and I have noticed that his gut appears to be growing. It is less clear whether that is a good or a bad sign.:)

Hurney is that uncle that shows up at the family gatherings empty-handed and drinks up everyone's booze then bails when it's time to clean up.

This is one reason i was hoping we'd trade back. Lots of first year starters still availble in the second. I expect several teams try to trade up tonight.

Agreed and I really do want another WR.  We'll need to score lots of points to compete and this is the best draft to find immediate impact players at the WR position. In fact, if  you look at the most successful wide receivers over the last decade, most were drafted after the first round.
