Teddy wasn't going to get anything less than 20ish mil.  Fitz got what 12-15 mil/yr for the Jets before his Bucs and Dolphins stints and that was some years back so factoring in the inflation, the contract is totally fine.  As mentioned, bottom 3rd of starter QB contracts, and not a long term investment.  This is starting to draggggggg

Considering its obvious they want to win, you pay 20 mil.

Winning next year and winning consistently for the next 5-10 is not necessarily the same thing.  As a Panther fan you should understand that.

Yeah, there is. The problem is that it's called purgatory.

My biggest concern is the worst case scenario. That scenario being that Teddy is just good enough to keep us from being in a position to land a legit franchise QB prospect.

If he can put 40 on the board every week then yes, because that’s what the O will have to do

The whole discussion of Teddy having to play at an elite level to justify getting paid at the bottom of the starting quarterback range ignores a few realities. This season is most likely going to be delayed. The offense is brand new and supposedly pretty complicated. There are a ton of new pieces to try and fit together including coaches, player and scheme. Our offensive coordinator is in his first season coaching in the NFL.

If we just look fairly decent that is all you can reasonably expect. And of course you would take a QB familiar with the system if you can get him at a reasonable price.
