Comparing Jordan's practice demeanor to a Panthers player...

I try not to speculate, but dang that Chinn reminds me a lot of Davis coming out of Georgia.  In fact, Chinn's combine was better than Davis--if you compare the measures they actually both did:

Height:

Davis 6-1; Chinn 6-3

Weight:

Davis 230 lbs; Chinn 221 lbs.

Arm Length:

Davis 32 inches; Chinn 32.12 inches

Hand Size:

Davis 10.25 inches; Chinn 9.6 inches

40 yd. dash

Davis 4.64; Chinn 4.48

Vertical

Davis 36.5; Chinn 41

Chinn had a 138 broad jump and benched 225 20 times—both rather impressive for a safety.

Am I saying Chinn will be converted to a LB?  No.  I am comparing his athleticism, however, to one of our best and most versatile players.  Chinn will see action in various roles--one being LB, if they call it that.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see us develop some defensive looks with Chinn at LB, specifically in dime formations or even nickel 3rd and long situations.

It's amazing how if Steve Smith punches a teammate he's a bad person, but if MJ does it, he's just competitive. The disrespect people have to our all time greatest player is amazing.

Teammates... try to keep up

When he fell to the bottom of the second, you can only imagine that they felt they could move up and get a poor man's Simmons (I do not think they were incredibly high on Simmons, however)--that Swiss Army knife that is so important vs. no huddle and spread offenses---someone who can take on those dominant TEs that have been all the rage lately.

I am way biased now, but Simmons was not that much of a hitter--he would bring you down.  Davis had the rep of a hitter coming out of UGA.  Chinn hits--watch the videos:

Now Simmons is a good, versatile player, but he seems to lack that head hunter gene.  He makes the sure tackle and does not look to punish.  There was some talk that said that was the reason the Panthers passed on him---I see it:

I loved Smitty the player but it would honestly surprise me if Smitty the person was anything other than a top shelf asshole. The thing is that it's impossible to separate the two. That Mount Everest sized chip on his shoulder that highly likely makes him a complete asshole was also what drove him to be great on the field. Not sure a 5'9" 185 pound mid-round pick ever develops into arguably the best WR in the NFL without it.

Yeah, I never really got much of an indication that Simmons was really much of a consideration for us at #7 (possibly in part because we were planning to target Chinn later?). If Brown wasn't there, I honestly think we would've tried hard to trade back. And yeah, Chinn's measurables really aren't that far off from Simmons'.

I feel LB Kevin Greene would have to get some consideration as well. Greene spent three of his final four seasons with the Panthers until 1999 and later made the NFL Hall Of Fame. He played with passion, practiced hard and expected the same from teammates. He also grabbed one of our coaches on the sideline during the heat of battle.

Jordan was an awful teammate, smith is the closest comparison and even he wasn’t as bad as Jordan

If you're wanting to play for the fun of the game, yeah. If you wanted to win championships, well that's what Jordan did and he wouldn't accept any less from anyone else on the team.

No one is mad at Jordan for being tough on his teammates. We're just pointing out the absurd hypocrisy people have saying Jordan was a great teammate while Steve Smith was too harsh.

I'm not sure it's a coincidence that other than Moose (who was Smitty's mentor), Smitty never played with another high quality NFL WR and everyone we tried to draft and develop ended up busting. MJ was hard on guys, but he did it primarily to try to make them and ultimately the team better. I think Smitty was hard on guys just to be an asshole.

Like most of you I have been watching The Last Dance.

I'd rather spend an hour staring at a blank screen, off, than five seconds watching this "so what" documentary. Are American men really this desperate for sports? If so the term, "Get a Life", comes to mind.
