Linebackers get paid based on the percentage of plays they are in for.

That's why Shaq is getting paid.

Generally yes but not across schemes. 3-4 OLBs may play much less than some 4-3 OLBs yet they make way more as pass rushers.

I never understood why people were thinking Shaq was going to be the MLB.

I had the same argument with them---they said, "Because he got MLB money..."  Nevermind the skill set.  They made the same argument about Paradis starting at C---"yeah, he sucks, but we are paying him starting C money..."

Using this strategy, our accountant needs a whistle and some khakis.

It's mid-June; added the spice.  I'll revise the title ;)

You bastid--what the ???   (My response was added spice because we all like a good conflict).

I think he is probably slated to start there, but we sure signed a lot of undrafted free agent MLBs.

I would not be too surprised to see Kycpsockshswe3r (LB from Cal) get a long look.  He is not bad.

I never thought Thompson was expected to play middle linebacker just because he was signed and Luke retired. He doesn't fit the role.

No, and it is a different animal if you have ever tried to play both---

And it's not like it would really shock me if he did. However, when he hasn't played the position, doesn't fit the mold, and a veteran is signed who has and does then it's just seems the most likely situation is the one that's playing out.

I was responding to kspan.

We've got a lot of untested young LBs in Smith, Carter, Kyle K, Chris Orr..could make for a pretty interesting battle if things get back to normal.

Yep. Luke started at OLB and really was not that great there. Pretty much the instant that he switched to the middle it was clear as day that he was going to be elite.

Has Phil even met Whitehead in person?

Seems a little premature to be naming starters.

Looking at this group, I think it's pretty safe to say that Whitehead and Shaq should be considered starters unless some camp upsets happen.
