Panthers claim 3 players on waivers

I like these additions.  I wonder....

Is Little moving inside to G?  Scott has starting LT experience and they may have obtained some information from Okung--both Okung and Scott were Charger OTs.  I watched a few plays with Scott at LT and he looked natural there, even though he was a G by trade.

Douglas, if used correctly, should be an asset.  He is a ball hawk, according to his stats.  He struggled at times, but there was a reason--he was not used in a manner that always matched his skill set.

Miller is a question mark, but a 23-year old 2019 fourth rounder with one game under his belt is worth a flyer.  He was good in college, and had good combine numbers (6-4.5, 254, and ran a 4.69 40).  He is 23.

Really confused about Obada getting cut and Shareef Miller getting claimed. Miller was cut because he is a better fit for a 3-4 scheme. Panthers might be running a hybrid scheme. Zach Kerr (6’2, 311lbs) is listed as a DE on the Panthers website.

The DE/OLB/SS/Monster/Nickel is indeed confusing.  I do not see it yet.  Miller is younger, in the Burns build, fast, etc (4.69 40).  On the other side, we have YGM and Weatherly.  I think.

DB Rasul Douglas, 25 years old, 6'2" 209. (Eagles)

DE Shareef Miller, 23 years old, 6'4" 254. (Eagles)

T Trenton Scott, 26 years old, 6'5" 320. (Chargers)

Douglas and Scott both have some starting experience in the league. Shareef Miller played at Penn State with YGM. Scott played for Pat Meyer in San Diego.

So far Matt Kaskey has been released to make room for Trenton Scott.

very nice

My buddy is a HUGE Eagles fan. Here's what he just texted me about Douglas:

The Panthers got Rasul Douglas.  I feel like he is one of those guys that is great if put in the right situation.  If the Panthers are smart the will move him to a Malcolm Jenkins S/CB role

He might be onto something considering our corresponding move was to release a safety.

He is right---at the very least we need to play him facing the QB (as I said earlier) and not in press coverage running with the WR (4.4 speed vs. 4.6 speed is not ideal).  The league is going to hybrid DBs, so he is probably right.  Think Josh Norman.  But at 6'2" and 210, he has some size and would be a nice CB/S hybrid.  Philly put him in press coverage at times with no S help.

This crossed my mind yesterday. They have someone at mind for safety, whether it is Douglas or someone else. They aren't going into the season with 3.

I am kinda looking at yesterday as a second  "day  3" draft.  Some of these players have NFL experience, while the others were drafted last year.  Regardless, these are all players who could help this team. I see Douglas as a possible starter, Scott as a potential LT backup or G, and Miller as possible depth at WDE.  I think Johnson will get a jersey at some point this season because I am not crazy about the talent in front of him.  Not bad.

THIRD ROUND:  Douglas, 25 years old, a 6-2 zone CB  (I realize third rounders are day 2 picks, but at #99 overall, this is late day 2---)

FOURTH ROUND: S. Miller. DE/OLB  4.69 40, in the mold of Burns.  Supposedly, another Eagle that did not fit what they wanted him to do.

SEVENTH ROUND: Clay Johnson, MLB, While on the PS for now, Johnson could find a jersey early in the season.

UNDRAFTED :  , 26-year old Trent Scott started at LT in the NFL for Okung when he was sidelined with health concerns.  He only had 1 start before that, at RT.  He gave up 8 sacks that season and had 10 penalties---both expected.  Let's hope he grows.

    • I still think a Dalton thumb injury screwed us 2 seasons in a row.  It allowed the Bryce Young comeback after whoever finally gave a greenlight on being done w/ him 2 weeks into the season.  and I think we saw a soft benching this year and they wanted to see Andy run it with this crew.  But Andy hurting his thumb killed us from seeing whatever he has at full go in a game.  Bryce Young was never hurt those 2 games to the degree which called him to miss a game IMO.  You don't see QBs sit for such minor things....unless you just want to use it to explore and see.
    • I was quite critical of Ron Rivera's game day coaching decisions and management over his years here. Especially when he coached super conservative playing not to lose. But at the end of the day he never had to try and win with a Bryce Young. John Fox had to try and win with a Bryce Young and he completely checked out and got himself fired. The only. Only solution right now. Is to remove the anchor around our necks from the equation and move forward however we can and assess all the moving parts with the time we have left so we can move forward accordingly in the offseason. Not doing so is only going to further delay evaluating what we have in this young roster and this staff led by Canales.
    • Sometimes GMs try outsmart everyone by picking a player they think has the physical tools and can be coached up but Legette is an example what happens when that doesn't work out. Teams that are already contenders with a full roster can take those chances. The Eagles, for example, could have rolled the dice on a guy like Legette. But the Panthers needed, and still need, to draft guys who are ready to play now in the first round. Legette wasn't that guy and there were much better options available.
