Kk short and Derek brown were not the problem

Defensive ends were the biggest reason for our lack of pass rush and run stopping .

On a YPC basis the Panthers were not terrible against the run. We gave up a few big plays and most of them had a common factor, DEs taking poor angles and going too far up field.

Burns continues to push way too far up field against the run and pass which is why I remain skeptical on him.

I remember at least 2 specific occasions where the play side had the holes blocked up but the RB bounced backside due to Burns and YGM being too far up field and leaving a big cut back lane.

Need to see a lot more out of both of these guys for them to meet the hype. It seems that Burns didn't get the memo that we are running a 4-3 now. It looks like he got used to last year's D, where the OLB pushes further in. He was the only player making me yell at the screen. The rest of the failures were expected.

I agree with your sentiment about the defensive ends, but KK looked washed up to me. I noticed him make one play on the very first drive. Other than that, I only noticed him get manhandled with one-on-one match-ups. It's the first game of the season, so it's too early to officially say he's done, but he's not off to a good start.

Well, technically per NFL Next Gen Stats the breakdown was as follows(Jacobs and Booker):

Wide Left: 8 attempts for 45 yards(5.6 ypc)

Inside Left: 5 attempts for 24 yards(4.8 ypc)

Inside Right: 6 attempts for 18 yards(3.0 ypc)

Wide Right: 10 attempts for 35 yards(3.5 ypc)

It actually looks more like the left side of the line is the weakness, not so much the ends.

I agree KK didn’t show up on Sunday but it was also his first competitive game in probably 18 months if not longer. Let’s see what he is like in the next few weeks.

You know what absolutely sucks about Burns is I think he could be an absolute stud in the right system. The problem is we played this game of flip flop with defensive schemes and now he is completely positionless in this defense.

I hope he can prove me wrong and hold his own in the running game. Unfortunately, it just feels like he’s completely out of place as a 4-3 end.

They should have traded him. He is light. Very very light. He is at best a 3 4 not a 4 3. Not stout enough to hold that edge in a 4 3 and that’s why he was there when Rivera drafted him

I sometimes wonder whose idea it really was to go to a 3 4

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
