Arm strength and the ability to throw the deep ball are not the same thing.

Why does everyone lump these two together?

Can Teddy throw deep? Yes, even high school QBs can throw the deep ball.

Can Teddy make all the throws a guy like Mahomes and Rodgers can make? No, those guys have laser precision missile launchers as arms. But guess what, Drew Brees doesn’t have an arm like that either and he’s headed for the hall of fame. (Hate saying that)

Teddy can run this offense effectively and an upgraded offensive line will allow him to play even better.

Right now Teddy and Brady need to work to figure out what works for him in the hurry up two minute offense. It’s been our downfall in at least 3 losses this season. We know Teddy doesn’t have the arm strength for those quick sideline comeback and out routes which are huge for conserving time and stopping the clock.

Also figure out why Teddy isn’t looking DJ Moore’s way more frequently. He is open all the damn time and I’m starting to wonder how Teddy isn’t seeing him.

Work on these things and have a good draft and next season is going to be fun. Everyone should be very excited about this teams future.

Throwing deep and having a strong arm are in correlation with each other. You are pointing the outlier in Brees who really can’t throw deep anymore. The best deep ball passer this year Wilson, Mahomes, Allen, Herbert all have cannons, all these guys can throw deep with pressure in their face or when throwing off balance. Yes Teddy can complete a deep pass when everything is perfectly protected and the right play is called.

His arm seems fine to me. It just seems like he falters when he knows the pressure is on. He’s been away from the game as a starter so I can understand that it might take time to give him a fair evaluation in that regard. But I am a little concerned with his lack of clutch late in games .

Lots of guys are smart QBs that know where to go with the ball. But guys like Brady have that trait  and then some. They know they have the confidence to force the throw and make it with the game on the line. We haven’t seen that out of Teddy, that you would expect out of a franchise QB.

He’s great when we start the game and it’s 0-0. But him throwing panic INTs and taking sacks we when need to maintain field position is egregious .

That’s the only thing that has concerned me that far but I’m not going to jump to conclusions and panic year one.

If we get an influx of talent in the offseason and these issues persist, then people will have every right to be mad/concerned.

anyone can throw deep, it's throwing deep fast and throwing deep consistently that are the issues.

that said teddy wasn't bad there today and i didn't see any real criticism of his throws, more just his decision-making and feel for the urgency of the game. burning off precious clock with dump-offs between the hashes was absolutely brutal and that's not an opportunity you see franchise quarterbacks squander.

That’s why I want to see Teddy behind a competent offensive line before freaking out. I think he is getting happy feet and focusing more on the line collapsing in front of him rather than the receivers down the field.

I feel like the last drive, with everything to the middle of the field, could potentially show a lack of confidence in Teddy's ability to get the ball outside. There are typically throws to the sideline in that situation and they didn't happen. If they were called for and Teddy didn't make them then it was either great coverage by KC or a lack of confidence on his part.

Total speculation on my part but the slants/dumpoffs were so confusing. Mike Davis though... that dude deserves some harsh criticism for that nonsense. Get the heck out of bounds.

Teddy can’t throw a GOOD deep ball because he has a noodle arm and not good enough technique to throw a good spiral. Even weaker armed QBs can throw a good deep ball of they throw a good spiral.  Teddy’s mid to deep balls often flutter and wobble like wounded ducks.

Jake Delhomme used to quote something Mike McCoy said to him a lot. It was "Don't throw the ball. Pass the ball."

As a quarterback, your job isn't to throw the ball as hard as you can or as far as you can. It's to pass it to the right spot at the right time in the right manner for the receiver to be able to catch it. It's about skill, not strength.

That's why a lot of teams (especially teams that use West Coast systems) aren't worried about a QB having a "rocket launcher" for an arm.

But in real world NFL terms it's not something to make a priority.

    • To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is worth seeing.  https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7083539/2026/03/04/starting-quarterback-projections-free-agency-draft/?source=user_shared_article I’m putting something specific here but it should have a thread or something. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .
    • The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown. He ranks 13th on PFT’s top-100 free agents. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-rashid-shaheed-appears-headed-to-free-agency
