How Do We Feel About Our 4 New Rookies?

Ball - if he doesn't learn to shoot then we overpaid

Carey - Duke players have about an 8% success rate in the NBA to become starters, so as much as I like him on paper I am not confident.  I feel like we reached because we needed size.

Riller - very undersized scoring guard, but could be a good bench player....maybe he can develop into a legit PG, but then he is blocked by Ball and Graham.  Not a bad value where we got him

Richards - again I like the value - could be a very nice backup center....and potential to develop into a starter.  I will take him over Bizmack all day long

Overall I like our value later much more than Ball and Carey - would rather have gotten Okongwu and picked up a shooter with our 2nd pick.

Love the guards.. Hate the Centers.

Carey is a top 3 pick in 2008.. The league is different, there is little use for a defensively plodding traditional center. RIchards is a ton more athletic, hopefully they are onto something here, there was better value available.

Lamelo Ball- had to be the pick. Not liking his athletic profile at all and the fact his shoot needs loads of work. It is what it is....

Vernon Carey- Fills a need, young, and reminds me of Cousins some. Top 5 HS blue chip and went to a school that doesnt know how to develop bigs. Does Chris Collins still train the bigs at duke? what a joke

Grant Filler- already has some pro skills. Weak draft and you can not expect much form the 56 pick in it.

Nick Richards- Filled a need and light finally came on. Best SEC big and was tearing up before kung flu hit.

Think about this- add these rookies to roster and only Rozier and Buttam are the only non-drafted Hornets. Mitch has built this team form the draft, props.

Carey played heavy at Duke because k wanted him to. He's dropped 30 pounds so I'm excited about seeing him play lighter in the pros!!

Don't sleep on the kid! The #2 Charlotte jersey is legend but Im almost sure Ball has that "it" that LJ had and maybe even more.

The kid was exiled until he could play his way back to the great ol' USA. That took maturity and toughness to get through that. I think that adversity and high expectations have made him a potentially elite NBA rookie.

Reminds me so much of the young Kobe we foolishly traded away.

If Riller pans out you've got a perineal 6th man, baller, 4yr guy, rare.

Carey is that enforcer you need. He'll get NBA strong, not that he wasn't already a man among boys. Good pick.

Richards, another blue chip big. I think the bigs are there for playoff runs, similar to the Bulls three headed center back with MJ.

Hornets are NOW headed in the right direction. IF Lamelo is what I think he is, this Hornets team is playoff bound for the long run.

    • Good game so far.  Solid trench battles, two young well built defenses, and my 2 fave coaches.  Stafford is really damn good.  SEA OL is overperforming.
    • Okay then. To me that means Russell Wilson was Coryell. Because I see the proposition completely in the Russell Wilson punt/pass put it up for grabs mold. Count on the receiver to catch it or knock it down.    And the reason I thought that was the intent with Legette is the abysmal downfield game from 2023. As in, there was barely any.   I look at it as if… the result of a deep attempt isn’t as important as the opponent understanding they have to defend it. So I was all for some 50/50s. Coryell, Walsh whoever.  I do favor the Coryell approach personally but also very much value versatility, it doesn’t have to be strict. Just make the defense defend the whole field, however you do it. It has to include downfield throws.
    • Sold, or in the process of being sold. Could be either way. Consider this for a second... Last season, our defensive coordinator steered what many have called the worst defense in NFL history.  Canales would absolutely have been justified in firing him, and no one would have blamed him if he had.  But what did he do? He gave Evero another chance to come back and prove he could be better. Does that tell us something about Canales? I think it does. Now apply that to Bryce 😕
