Panther defense most conservative in the league.

This article suggests we play zone specifically cover 3 much of the time and blitz among the fewest times of any team.

There is some conversation that it is personnel but how can we can blitz a lot against detroit and shut them out but with essentially the same guys give up tons of yards and points to the Vikings.  Plus I heard Rhule say if Snow had to replay the game against the Vikings again he would have blitzed more.

If it was all personnel than when you blitzed you would get poorer results not better ones and you wouldn't change your scheme if you didn't have the personnel to do both.

No this just convinces me even more that Snow's preferred scheme doesn't work in the pros and he will need to bring more pressure and put more guys on the line of scrimmage to confuse the blocking protections like we did against Detroit. The 3-3-5 is the old prevent defense which prevents you from winning.

Yeah, there is a reason that "bend but don't break" poo doesn't get used in the NFL......

It’s almost like we have the youngest  starting defense in a decade

Again these young guys aren't the problem. Burns, Chinn, Brown etc are the reason we don't suck worse.  And I would be fine if we were aggressive and made mistakes but with a prevent scheme it won't work with any team young or old. It is just a poor scheme against QBs in the NFL who routine pick apart passive zones.

If you want a very obvious and clear example of that and only have to watch one game....watch us versus the Vikings. Most of that game we are aggressive and pressure Cousins. Fast forward to the last 6ish minutes of that game and watch us go full prevent to lose the game.

Exactly. Makes no sense to hold them to 10 points for 45 minutes using 1 scheme and then give up 18 in the last 15 using a different scheme.  I hope he figures it out soon.

As old as he is, this is his first time in the NFL. We haven't been dreadful defensively but we have to gamble more moving forward. Honestly, I don't see what the point of NOT being more aggressive is right now. We are all but mathematically eliminated. Let's get out there and get after it.

Our line backers suck and our CBs are worse. Teams that Blitz a bunch usually either have great LB Cores or CB Cores. We have neither.

Sure but what we are doing has been proven not to work. Why not try something different? Otherwise....why did we fire Ron?

    • Btw... only Mitch fugging Marner has a better +/- than Key 🔑!!! And, Mitchy needed 5 more games and almost 100 more shifts to get there.
    • I was honestly flabbergasted to see Rod send out Stanky and the boys to to matchup against their top line to start the game. The reason that line has been so effective is because they've been matched mostly against 2nd and 3rd lines all year. You've got last change. Use it to your advantage.
    • Nobody played well on defense last night. But, the vitriol towards Chatfield (and to a lesser extent, K'andre) is bigly misplaced. People (not just you) just refuse to accept how bad Slavin has been this season. And, I get it. Canes fans (and informed analysts) have spent nearly a decade trying to explain to casuals just how good Jaccccob is at hockey. 4Nations happened and the hockey watching public started to listen. National media even started floating the idea of creating a new award in his honor. Then this season, he gets hurt. It happens. NBD. But, when he finally came back, it wasn't the same. He'll get back to his old self in no time. Probably just some rust, it'll be fine. Only, it wasnt rust, and he's not fine. He's bad right now. It wasnt just last night. Although, that was absolutely the worst game of his NHL career. Slavin (-4) currently has the 3rd worst +/- of anyone left in the playoffs. We've  been begging the world to recognize Jaccob Slavin's greatness. And, by the time we finally got people to listen, he shits the bed! I blame Kash!
